KMS Turbo Yz450f

Or any horror stories with any snowbike turbos

I wish I had the knowledge you do... But that's the question... Are the kits constructed right to keep the engine safe... Kms seems to have a good fuel controller troller which is everything for turbos as long as it is set right..

Good fuel management is not all. This debate on piggyback or standalone fuel injection has been discussed in many Yamaha sled turbo forums. For me, the MCX piggyback EFI-box looks to work just as fine as many Nytro or Apex MCX turbo users state.
Plenum design, backpressure, intercooling and gas flow has also to be right too. I'm not sayin that my kit is flawless, but i think you have to look at more aspects than fueling to get it to work properly.
You also need some minor engine modifications. Just an untouched standard MXbike engine will not last long with a turbo...

Agreed .. had a nytro ... The dobec. 240 kit then changed to a 200 kit without the extra Injector but alt and temp compensating and dyno tuned felt 20 times better ... Same system... Agreed about the other upgrades..

I have now logged over 50hr. on a boosted kMS Yamaha and can attest to the reliability and fun that this kit has to offer. I built this bike two seasons ago and it is FUN!!!!! It is so good I have put people on it that have never ridden anything turbo and feel that it is safe in their hands. You do not have to babysit the gauges while you are riding. Just grab a handful and GO!!!!!

I pulled the plug and did a leak down test and found that there is less than 3% leak down. I figured that it would require a top end after two seasons, but no need. It is strong and ready for more!!!

You might see it up for sale, only because I am building a new project for this season. PM me if you are interested.

Running the stock piston and rings with the turbo?

I'd be a little more worried about the piston actually coming apart rather than wearing out under these conditions. It's not uncommon to see cracked pistons in 4 stroke dirt bike and quad race motors. They usually don't give any warning when they let go either. Just something to think about.

Yes, Stock piston and rings. Only real change is head studs.
