Klotz Octane Boost???

in many cases "octane boosters" don't boost octane. back when i was running race sleds on the trails there was a huge discussion about this over on dootalk. i ended up using torco race gas conentrate i think or something like that. it was the only additive found to actually boost octane numbers.

this is what i used.

Torco is the octane booster that worked for me in my moded FST. The computer would derate power if octane wasn't at least 91. I mean a real 91 not the crap out of the pump that says 91 but never is. I would add Torco to every tank and would not derate even with higher temps( high IAT is #1 reason for derating power on the FST). I tried everything I could get my hands on and nothing worked until I found Torco. It's expensive but worth it. You can find them in different size bottles to suit your needs and for easy packing on your sled.

without looking at the specific product, but knowing klotz reputation my guess is it would be on par with torco. it is the cheapo off the shelf from walmart octane boosters that don't really do anything. they claim X number of points increase, but you have to understand that 1 point raise is going from 90.0 to 90.1. so you would need to see a real 20 to 30 "point" increase before even starting to have an effect.

Yea, I realize it isnt going to give me race gas performance, nor do I intend on useing it for "boost" levels. More or less just to keep the water out of the tank and maybe help the engine knock.

klotz

I am running a PA head for altitude, and through experimenting, found that the klotz octane booster helps with the deto problems i was facing from the "91" octane pump gas i had accesss to. Kept a quart in my tunnel bag and if i filled up and had a problem i would mix a little in and ride trouble free the rest of the tank. Now, im not claiming to have done scientific research, and measured to the tenth of the ounce... mostly just add a little and go if i needed it but it always kept the light off sure made me a believer
My . 02 anyway

Klotz

I think the Klotz product I used was the HiTrate. I think it would be comparable to the Torcco.

I've never tried the clots, but I cary a can of torco on long rides where I might be needing to buy some old 87 oct. at some bush lodge. I normally run strait av because if you can buy it somewhere other than the airport it's cheaper than mixing or additive, but I've run 8lbs at sea level with 5 gallons of 87 and one can of torco. Doesn't smell as good as the av, but kept me from detonating.

Ive used Klotz and it works for my use.
Last year I had problems with DET on my SWB Assault, PA head and AAEN pipe. 1% of Klotz and the problem was gone!

Our distributor of Lucas says not to use it on a 2stroke more then 30-40h without taking it apart.
They say the mangan and 2stroke oil makes carbon deposits on the piston and rings.

I was told to keep some in the gas over the engine over winter to prevent water build up.
