Klone peak?

I was wondering if anyone has ever acessed Klone peak via maverick saddle to two little lakes? I would imagine if you follow the bike trail there would be about a 1.5 mile sidehill thru the trees? Info please as I think Im doing it this weekend wether it's been done or not. :face-icon-small-coo

I have been up there a few times. It is possible. I have only been up there after someone else broke the trail in though.

With the Snow conditions we have I would imagine the creek is not filled in. That would make it really hard to make it up to the meadows after you cross the creek.

Good luck!

Uh-huh. If the creek (wich is realy more of a river) was filled in I dont see any problem getting in, just follow the creek. I imagine it's not filled in. But the bike trail follows just uphill to the left of the creek, then it crosses the creek twice then it's fairly level. I dont doubt my ability to cut a sidehill for miles on end; but the way back could be tricky with ruts made earlier in the day. It'l be a adventure anyway ;) Pics im sure.

yes you can, should be no problem

I have been up to klone peak many times on sleds and bikes. With snowmobiles it usually pretty easy, just pick a day when you have visablility. It's a cool ride up to the top, well worth the view when you get there and some good spots to climb and mess around on the way,

I've done that ride many times from Klone through the two little lakes and it is a good one. Only do it on the clear days though. There is a little sidhilling involved but no mile and half. Buddies and I are thinking about going into mad lake this Saturday. Might see you there. We have a group of 3 - 2 red 1M 900 cats and a black 800 cat.

Where are people going in at? I was going to go in via the maverick saddle. Seems I remember it being sidehilly in the begenning when I rode it on the ktm this summer?

Go in through maverick saddle and follow the creek/trail to the meadows. You ride the trail some of the time and you are on the creek some of the time, usally where the trail is on the steep hillsides. I haven't been in there this year yet but some one should have been by now, so all of the down timber should be out of the way and basically follow the other tracks. The creek should be covered with enough snow by now so it shouldn't be a problem. If the creek is not covered, good luck.

We made it to Klone via trail head last weekend. Riding up top was okay. The ride in and out was long and kinda brutal. But the trail is broken in now but a few trees down. We did wedge one sled pretty good trying hurdling the first one..LOL. You will see it, looks easy!!! Once you get the sled up on top you slide sideways down against the standing three and you end up wedge in-between....%$&# its kinda funny. Notorious whoopie do's all the way up and back down was lame...just to many miles of it to where you get anyoed with it “I can still feel it.”..LOL....reminded my of Bearpaw after they stop grooming.....fun stuff

The Creek is exposed in many places, the trail in was mostly carved side hilling in from side to side up thru the creek. I am guessing at least half dozen riders got there before us but we still got some untouched powder on the sides. Depth varied but I would say an average of 12 inches of lightly set up snow thru the flat meadows when we wore there.

Have fun and tag the miles of woopies for me LOL,

Weeelll, Went after an atempt on Klone peak on sunday. Beautiful weayher really, and real actual powder. Didnt make it to the peak due to my inability to stay away from the most dificult way to get anywhere posible. What a whooped out beotch. 10 miles of whooped out trail to get anywhere decent. Of course the semi filled in creekbed looked way too inviting so we dove in about a mile after the bridge and followed it all the way to the meadows. This is not advisable if you are not a super-pro sidehiller. Steep, tree dodging, open creek at bottom, basicly right up my alley but few others are psycotic enough to think that is fun. All in all I would say the rewards do not justify the trail in.

I of course forgot my camera in the truck, so here are some crappy phone pics.

Found a log and reverse lawn darted?

The end of one of the sidehilly spots. Open creek at bottom, mabey 300 yards between places to stop.

And all that screwing around in the creek drainage killed the better part of the day. Went past the trail to Klone peak I think and ended up looking back south at it as it was getting dark.

Only glimpse I got of the top (it's between the trees waaaaay off in the distance)
