Klim F4 and 509 goggles

I have the 509 goggles, and the F4 helmet.
The problem that I'm having is the breath deflector holds the goggles up too high in the helmet, and my eyes are staring out at the bottom part of the goggle instead of through the centerline. The goggle is also overlapping the breath deflector and sitting in the helmet at an upward angle. Breath deflector out, the goggles are still high in the helmet face.

I also notice that the goggle foam doesn't sit on my face as it is being held out by the breath deflector.

I was told that Scott Xi might work better, but most of the reading points to the fact that the Scotts fill the face better (3/4" gap above goggles). I don't see how they would change where they sit in relation to my eyesight.

Anybody else?? What are your thoughts? My dealer is calling Klim to see what their recomendation is.

The Klim helmet was definitely designed with little thought on how the eye port will mesh with goggles.

The new '09 509 goggles will alleviate some of the issues you described. For one they come standard with a large removable nosemask that will shield your entire nose. They also have new oversized foam that will fill any gaps in between the goggle and helmet. Finally they now have thicker foam (20mm) so there is added cushion for them to sit further back in the helmet and against your face.

My rec would be to ditch the breath deflector and run with a goggle that has a nosemask and a balaclava.

I've never worn a Klim helmet before. But I do have a large in the office. I'll test fit the new '09s with it. My fat head is too big for a large tho, lol

Please PM me for how much a pair of the 09 goggles are running...

Oh, and do they perhaps come with an option for a polarized lens?

Thanks,
Track

News Flash - its tuff to find a pair of goggles that fit the tiny opening of the Klim Helmet......i got the fix,cut away the outer foam edge of your goggles, maybe 1/4" or so, this will give the goggles a smaller foot print to fit in the stupid tiny opening Klim gave us.....oh well, still the best helmet thats been on my brain bucket

'09s will be $74.99. No polarized lens yet, but I'm working on it. So soon as it's out you can install it in your '09 frame.

Site will be updated in a couple weeks to start taking orders for the '09s

I'm thinking of either cutting the breath deflector, or cutting the inner part of the goggle foam near the eye socket.

I still have the tags on the helmet, so I might just take it back and get something different.

Using a Scott 89XI goggle with nose guard and airvent.

M2R TC3 size XL will allow me to wear ther air vent and nose guard with the helmet.

Troy Lee Designs SE size XL will not allow me to wear ther air vent and nose guard inside the helmet. BUT I can wear the nose guard over the front of the helmet with no gap between my face and goggle.

Shoei VMT size XL will not allow me to wear ther air vent and nose guard inside the helmet. BUT I can wear the nose guard over the front of the helmet with no gap between my face and goggle.

I don't think we can answer your queation because your head and face is a different size as compared to everyone elses.

Also, helmets change dimensions. Typically Large , Xlarge and XXLarge have the same shell but different padding.

Small and medium are the same shell but different size padding.

Your best bet is to get a helmet you like and try on lots of goggles or get a nice pair of goggles and try on many helmets.

The 509 nosemask sits over the Klim breath deflector. Not much interference there. But the bigger issue is how narrow the Klim helmet is. The eye port on a Klim is 8 3/16 where as a Fly helmet is 8 11/16.

removing the breath deflector definitely gives more vertical room for goggles. Whether they are 509 or not.

Spy has the Targa II on sale for $15, I just worry a bit because the spy line isn't a snowmobile specific goggle. (snowboard line) Yamaha aftermarket catalog sells the Targa II as well.

I browsed through the Klim catalog again, and saw the Targa, the Smith, and the Scott.
The Scott was the only shot of them wearing the nose deflector (scotts nose deflector not klim's)

I think I'll try the Scotts first, (Don your price is great, but I want black).

I used to use a Spy Motocross goggle with a lense that didn't fog up and they are really nice goggles. I liked them but I switched to Oakley after my dog got hungry for goggle foam:eek: This year, I am going to use the Fly helmet with the 509's.

As a sidenote, aren't most snowmobile/snowboard googles the same thing? I know that my Targa II's worked fine and I bought the "snow" version. I think they have a double lense IIRC.

BTW, I did buy a few more pair of those Targa II's at that price.

The spy's work magnificently with the Klim helmet. Keep in mind that everyone's head is a little different. Your nose can really effect how a goggle fits with a helmet. I've never personally used the 509's, but have read a lot of positive feed back on them. Did they change this year?
Ok, the spy Alloy, Targa and Targa snow are all the same goggle with different lenses. The Magneto and Omega are also the same with different lenses. The Zed is another option. These are all motor sports goggles designed to fit with helmets.
The Alloy/Targa's have exceptional peripheral vision. The Omega's will give better coverage as the frame is larger. This is what I mostly use with the Klim helmet.

Maybe we should make a Klim F4 and goggles specific thread as I just got back from trying on a few pair a goggles.

Tried the Scott 89xi nosweat which have a solid beak that fits over the Klim breath box, and 3 layer foam, these fit very well but they were clear lens, so I'd have to order a pair with tint. These fit better without the breath box, and the plastic beak almost seals the entire area below the goggles. Top section was sealed by the frames. I saw these on clearance somewhere online but can't find it now.

Tried the Fox main pro goggles which also have a smaller beak and 3 layer foam. These fit even better, as the foam wasn't anywhere near my eyesockets. The filled the helmet up the same as the Scott. I'm a little worried about them not being snowmobile specific, but neither are the Scott nosweat. They only had blue in stock so I passed on these but will check the internet, they are $65
