KLIM Avalanche Clinic Last Night in the CHATROOM

So.
I am going to TRY and record tonight's presentation on an HD Handycam and see of You-Tube's new LONG video option works.

No promises, but I will try.

You could also try and post it to VIMEO. I think they allow longer videos and the quality is better...

I got it recorded but I have no idea what it looks like.
Will try to download it off the camera tomorrow.

looking forward to a youtube release
the video feed did not work on my end last night

if the youtube doesnt work is it possible to make a disc? I would be willing to buy. Cheaper and way more available than finding a local class in the flatland

Right now I simply have NO idea what is on the video camera.
Will probably be a few days before I can download 2 hours of HD and actually take a look at it and listen and see if it is good enough to upload or not.

All my focus was on the web portion last night.
So the camera is mostly in a single fixed position, and I did not have time to do a sound/mic check in the begining.

Throwing my two cents in here, I think this online course thing is huge for most of us. I understand that in no way will it be as good as hands on training but seriously this is the route avy training should go to at least get more people aware and knowing what to look for etc. At my job we do all sorts of training online, honestly 98% of our training is online. I think someone like Mike Duffy could put together something and with the help of some IT guys this could be a go. If we could dedicate a site or part of this forum where you can watch the training online on your own time we can get more people involved than ever. I think that most of us would even be willing to pay for it as long as it wasn't ridiculous, or maybe we could get outfits like KLIM and others to sponsor it to make it free or at least curb the costs. We could even make it like my job, you can't start doing anything until you have your training, so no sledding until all of your training is up to date. Well, in a perfect world I guess.

Seriously folks I really think this would be good, and I am beyond upset that I missed it, and if there is already a place where we can do this online, we need it advertised better. I have never seen one personally.

You can do your scuba classroom training online, so avy training is surely doable.

D'oh.

Got the PM but didn't see the part about the webcast. Would have watched it for sure...

It's great that Klim put on these clinics... Can never have too much avalanche awareness or knowledge. One of the group I ride with was involved in a small slide last Sunday. First time I had seen a slide up close and involving a rider. Fortunately it was small and we did everything right and no harm done but it serves as a blunt reminder of why we need to be prepared and have the know how of where to ride and what to do.
