King Cat Questions

I bought a '04 King Cat at the end of last season and havent had it out west yet. Just looking for a little help where I should start at for clutching etc? 6000'-9000' Should I just got by mfg. recomendations? or what have you guys found has been working good on a fairly stock 900. Only mods as of now are V-Force reeds and a cutler can.

I have also been reading about removing the ring inside the y pipe.. Is this something that should be done?

Also is SLP the best single pipe out there for these? Is it much bettter than stock?

Thanks for any help

I did this while running the stock pipe, didn't notice much difference. However, with V-Force reeds, you would probably see more than what I did. But I think the ring is only on EFI 900's if I am not mistaken.

With the SLP, you will remove it. The SLP with V-Force reeds is an excellent combo and much better than stock!!

What about on the 800's? Curious to read more on the ring.

I personally never do reeds unless they are wore out. Your money would be better spent getting your heads modded.

Put a torque rod on the motor and a boss highrise seat, jet it to the lean side of the chart and pick your needles up one extra slot to take care of mid range. Clutching is pretty good as is.

The ring was on carb and efi sleds. In the SLP single instructions they have you remove it. I am now back to a stock single with the y pipe with ring removed. I cant say that it makes any difference at all. Also, I hated the SLP single, My sled wouldn't run with it. I fought it for a full year before I decided that maybe the problem was the SLP pipe not the clutchs or carbs or jetting.
The 900 motors run really good on the stock single.

I bought my King used with the SLP single pipe and can on it. I found a link telling me about the ring inside the Y-pipe and removed it before I rode it. Mine runs strong in the Rockies. It has the V-force reeds in it, also. I do like the idea of raising the needles for the dreaded lean spot. I have also read that you can use the needles out of the ZR900 trail spec carbs.

The ring is what I think they call a torque ring. I would suppose it would help with the bottom end and midrange. I removed it by grinding down the two spotwelds and wiggled it out with a screwdriver from the back side little by little, tight fit. I see they offer these for the 800R Skidoo's and helps mid and topend? I also have seen where people have cut out the pinched down V section and welded it back round with a filler piece. As for jetting on the SLP look at there web sight should have it there.

Leave your clutching at stock recommendations. With only reeds and a can you're pretty much stock anyway.

A lot of guys have tried various pipes on the 900s with mixed results. The most consistent pipe seems to be the stock one.

i have a stock in every way 04 kk

and ran against many a mod idk mine must be a good one... all stock except for poly hood 16 lbs loss and that flakes rear sus bracket that was not worth it and 162 ce

Yes get rid of the ring, no matter how stock your sled is that will give you some benefit. We had great luck with SLP singles on these sleds. Also reccomend some sort of adjustment for the fuel. We used both the Holtzman variflow and the ATAAC and the ATAAC is a way better system. That sled runs spot on everyday. Either get rid of the stock arctic cat roller clutch and pick up an old hymark, earlenson or something comparable or if not at least replace the plastic rollers in the clutch with a rock roller. Those stock rollers get hot and go soft and you will never be able to get the sled to run consistent.
