King Cat 900 top end rebuild questions.

I plan on refreshing my top end this summer, but other than having the jugs honed and replacing pistons and rings, I'm not sure what else I should have done, what parts should I use? What about port and polish? Should I have the head milled? Who does the best work? Any help will be appreciated.

I just figures pistons are cheap compared to takeing a chance with a used piston. As far as the cylinder goes, I don't know alot about rebuilding snowmobile motors, so I'm hoping to learn this summer.

replace your piston every 2500 miles and have your local sled shop hone the cydrs with the hone for nickasil. just rule of thumb on a 2s.:beer;

you can hone them, the plating is VERY hard. you can hurt it but its pretty tough. I REALLY like the SPI forged pistons. They come with rings and wrist pins. Get a new wrist pin bearing while you have it apart. make sure you put the new base gasket on the right way. It looks like it will go either way bt it does have a side that goes up. it has up stamped out of it on one of the corners. Its pretty self explanitory, let me know if you have any questions I would be happy to help you out.

I slipped a ring mid season and chipped a piece on the piston off on my 900. The local Cat shop had the Suzuki pistons on hand, and they let me borrow their hone for the night. I was lucky when my piston went it didn't take out the jug completely. We put some oil on the hone and went to town on the cylenders, great crosshatching in the nikasil and pulls good compression. Rode the next day. As far as milling the head, just go with an aftermarket head. The mono heads seem to flow coolant better and reduce vibration.
