kinda let down today

Spent all day today @ wolf on a 12 assault. Pretty disappointing. I am a hard core polaris guy and have defended the pro rmk on many occasions but today I felt out gunned. Rode with 2 etecs, one 154 and a 163. Both pulled way harder than the assault I was on. Half way thru the day after quite a few minutes of slow weaving through the trees my sled developed a bog. Around 5-6k rpm. Was weird, when I would gun it from a stop it would bog then come alive. Sled only has 175 miles. I didn't make this post to stir the pot, once again I'm a polaris guy. I would hate to think this means a top end is soon but jezus. When wide open it would pull 8100 but in and out of throttle the bog was a bummer. Any ideas?

You are at the right milage for your throttle cable to have strecthed and develope the dreaded bog that comes with that. Sounds crazy, but is very real. Tighten up your cable til you have basically zero play in the flipper. If that doesn't work, have your tps adjusted. Between the two, I am betting your issue goes away. My money is on just a loose, streched throttle cable. It does not take much!

Trust me this bog had nothing to do with the snow conditions which were actually pretty decent all things considered. This is a mechanical issue. 5 other sleds there today and snow wasn't the issue for any of us. Sled would fall on its face hard core then come back alive like nothing was wrong. Almost felt like someone turned the fuel off for a second but then it was fine. I read your response like 4 times trying to understand what you ment. Not complaining about the chassis because it was great. Just a stupid bog.

I think what he meant was that yes, the doo's have more hp and will shine in superman snow. In a day of over the bars pow, the tables will turn and they will envy where you can go and they cant. Your issue with your sled is definetely mechanical and not snow related. But the bragging rights of the day is!

Got ya. No worries there. Assault stil pulled the sickest line in our group at least. Couldn't touch Matt or James turbo sleds but that's to be expected. The assault actually shines bright in the hero snow, especially downhill braking. Think its tps related huh? That could make sense. Also read about wires shorting from rubbing on spark plug wires. Sled is 100% stock so warranty will cover it.

Check the slack in your throttle cable 1st. EVERY Pro I've been around has gone through this atleast once or twice when new til the cable streches out...Then is good after that.

Listen for the fuel pump. Mine began doing this at around 300 miles and seems the smart valves are causing the problem. New pump assy on the way.

Hero snow....whack the throttle open... Bog, then pull?

Did you ever use the playback feature to see the RPM? If the ECU sees the RPM jump too quickly it will bog as if on the limiter. Add more primary weight see if it goes away.

I know it sounds crazy, but is really easy to happen especially if you are running 10-60's or lighter with stock helix. Even if you never saw anything over 8100 rpm on the MFD, use the playback feature. The RPM gauge will not keep up with motor revs under acceleration.

Polaris won’t admit it but there is a problem with the fuel mapping during higher temps. I rode in 55deg at 10,000ft and it did the same thing. I thought it was every different thing that could go wrong and I asked 3 other PRO riders and they said theirs did the same thing. Not saying it could be something else, but Im not the only one with this problem and the computer doesnt flash any problems.

What temperature was it outside when you were riding?

Temp was in the 50's yesterday. I thought about rev limiter. Def was not that. When goosing the throttle to wide open it would bog. Rolling into it and applying throttle slowly worked better but still showed the bog. A riding partner suggested that it could be simply the ambient temp of my sled, not engine temp. Really confusing because it would come back alive outa the bog like nothing ever happen. My computer told me max was.8100 I believe and noticed a reading of around 78-8000 on most long pulls but wot was not the issue. Once again the bog is off.the bottom to mid, around 5-6k rpms.

I would bet it was Temp issue...if you take it in and have the PC flashed and nothing comes back...there is nothing you can do. I dout any deal will just throw money and chase a problem they cant find.

mine did the same thing until it hit 6500RPM and then it came out of it.

Im HOPING it doesnt happen the beginning of next year or I will be trading for a new one.

FYI - dont be mad about the doo beating you, I ride with a guy who has a new one and the rest of the crew has new M8's...they all pull ahead, but they all love the way the PRO handles.

Yeah it doesn't bother me. The two sleds I rode with all day were the etecs. We had a long drawn out conversation about poo handling vs doo motors while taking some lunch. I think the pro rmk is the best of the three. Got nothing but rolled eyes and the typical " but they only have blah blah hp" responses. Anyway, I went out and checked throttle cable and it does not seem to be loose and there is no play in my flipper. No engine lights are flashing. Gonna try it again tomorrow @ wolf again. Will probably be near 50 again so we will see if it develops in the morning when its cold or just in afternoon peek heat.

If it doesnt happen tomorrow, dont be surprised...i took mine out the next day and it ran fine at 40deg and late after noon it got upt to mid 50's again...ran like crap...just an odd flaw i guess.

best of luck!

Will probably run a lot better after 200-250 miles...

my 2 cents

Our fuel pump crapped out and it acted just like you describe. Poo has been backordered for a month..... It sucks:face-icon-small-sad

TPS or inadequate/corroded ground at left front bumper bolt....ours was showing corrosion when new and cleaning up this ground fixed a number of electrical gremlins.

It's the temps. Spoke with my dealer and he was the one that brought it up to me. The way the temps are during spring riding, essentially makes the thing go into limp mode. It will clear as you play with the throttle, but it's the temps that are making your sled do that. My guess is there is nothing wrong with your sled.

Doesn't it only sense barometric pressure??? .....so a combination of temp and altitude...air density?
It shouldn't know whether it's 50* at 4,000ft or 30* 6,000ft....both would have a similar air density. a 20 degree change in temp is similar to a 2,000ft change in altitude. Seems to me, if it was from temperature then they would see the same issue at higher altitudes even when it's cold. ????
They run fine at the grass drags when it's 90. ??
