Keep what I have or trade?

Here is my situation; I currently have a 2011 SB Assault 800, which has treated me well for living in Maine. I tend to ride more off trail than on 75% off 25% on, and have found the limitations of the 144 track in some of the off trail riding, granted a 2” paddle track would probably help some. I am planning on moving west to Montana, Colorado, or Alaska in a year, and think that I am going to trade my sled for something bigger to handle the different snow conditions. The snow here is powder for a day or two after it hits the ground and usually becomes hard crusty snow.
I have been torn between the RMK Assault with the competition track because it would probably handle better my last winter in Maine, or the RMK in either size. The 163 would be overkill around here, but I think in the long run I might like it better. I was thinking about snowchecking my next sled. Around here there are not many 144 sleds; let alone anything bigger, mostly short track trail runners, unless I go to the northern border, but then there are not many up there to test out and ride for a day. I haven’t been on anything longer than a 144 before, I don’t think that makes much of a difference though.
Should I keep what I have and mod it as time comes or trade up now and for what? I am looking for suggestions, and insight to help me decide, pros and cons are appreciated.

well if it was me i would get a 155, and then if you ever wanted to go bigger you could stretch it. although a 163 really isnt that much longer on the ground. as long as you would have ice scratchers and extra boggie wheels you should be ok. I WISH I COULD MOVE WEST!!!! just my .02

trade in for a 155 RMK... you wont be disappointed. yea it doesn't have the best trail manners but who cares about those anyway! I have a 144 SB Assault w/ 2" and my dad has an '11 RMK 155... mine does very well but I'm still going to try and trade it up for an RMK if that helps you at all... And when I drove his 155 I couldn't really tell it was a 155 compared to my 144 as far as manners go, but I really liked the coil over rear suspension. Go with an RMK

Thanks for the replys guys, I am headed to my dealer this weekend and see what he can work up for a number. As for heading west, my hobbies are sending me in that direction. Driving a lifted wrangler unlimited in a state that just passed a law that you can get a ticket if your vehicle is louder than the surrounding traffic is insane. Imagine a guy with a vette next to some hybrid, theres a ticket. Theres a law on sleds too, no mods that raise the sound above factory levels or its another big ticket. Ok my rant is done, thanks again...:beer;:beer;:beer;
