Keep and Upgrade 2012 155" or New 2013 163"

Looking for some help making a decision here. Currently have a 2012-155 Pro pretty much stock other than running boards and a few odds and ends. Last year was my first year sledding and put 1300 trouble free miles on it. I did not snowcheck it so only have 1 year warrenty left. Only regret was not getting the 163.

Original plan was to keep it 1 or 2 more years and buy two more years warranty (4 year total). This would cost me about $2k. New option is Dealer will take it on trade for a 2013 163" for $3100. New sled will only have two years warranty, so will be in same boat next year if I want to keep the sled longer - another $2k for extended. I only have $3k to put into sleds this year.

Only reason I'd want the 2013 right now is for the longer track. I'm 230 6'3" before gearing up and prefer trees/boondocking over hill climbing. Find the 155" trenches a bit too easily if I drop speed in the deep.

Should I keep the 155", extended the warranty, and do some rear shock upgrades for my weight (raptors) or go for the 163", or keep the 155" and forget the warrenty and put all $3k into upgrades?

Sorry for the long winded post but any input is appreciated.

Here is my opinon, I would find a new take off 163 track and rails if you can find a set, or just buy extensions. If you look in the swap one guy just sold 3 163's for 425-450. Stock rails are ~200 bucks if you can find a set or a nice set of extensions for 100. So lets say 650 for tracks and rails.

Next buy an aftermarket 4yr warranty. Its about 500-600 and is a power train warranty. Its going to cover everything with the engine, electrical, and ECU. Pretty much the high dollar parts that you want covered. Many times they will be even easier to deal with then the factory warranty.

So that about 1200.00 for the track set-up you want, and 4 more years of warranty. Eric

I'm about the same size as you and ended up putting a 163" on my 11 Pro.

Like stated above, find a used takeoff 163" track and rails and sell your 155" track and rails for about the same amount. Or get rail extensions.

Don't really need a tunnel extension, just rivet the snow flap to an aluminum (replacement) bumper tube on the rear bumper to keep the snow flap from getting sucked into the longer track.

I did my 155" to 163" conversion for about $150 and love it.

Thanks for the input. Going the conversion route as I found a new 163" track for cheap. As for the aftermarket extended warranty, I've been looking around but cannot find anyone who provides this service in Canada. Given some of the recent posts about Polaristar, I'm also nervous about spending $1900 to extend from 2 to 4 years.

Anyone know a warranty provider to Canada, let me know.

I'd like to find someone in Canada too that would warranty the engine only for 600-700. 1900 is too costly. I'd rather risk taking out my engine at that price.

For $1900 you almost have enough to send the stock motor to indy Dan to get his motor and you would have 3 years warranty on it.

Think of resale value also. Drilling your tunnel and adding an extension isn't going to improve the resale.
I have no idea where you would find 163 rails for 200. Maybe for one, not two.
Does your dealer have any snowchecks that people are trying to get out of? If so, you can get the 4 year warranty for only $400.

Definnitely go for the 163" ur chubby *** needs it

ha ha , all joking aside i'm 6'1" tall and weight 250, all muscle obviously, ha, ha, jokes aside a 163 will give u better flotation on the snow , and will give u better all around feel for the sled, as far as warranty, BFD most guys trade therir sled before there warranty expires anyway, deal with it, go long and enjoy it

It's kinda funny, you can definitly spot the guys that are going to be throwing a leg over a new 13 this season. They dont even have to say they are buying a new sled. Lot's of excitement on these forums about new iron showing up at dealers and in garages. Congrats boys.......

Lol, the ONLY reason I am dropping $12K on a new one over an 11 or 12 is the warranty. Saw WAY too many Poos getting engines for the last several years. I will ride mine until the first engine goes (hopefuylly get two seasons out of it), then sell it with 2 years warranty left and a brand new engine for the new owner. If I had the same sled with no warranty, the value would ber considerably less.
I have seen the mess of sleds needing $5000 engines without warranty to cover it, and Craigslist/classifieds show the value of Poosleds that no longer have warranty. Just bought a nice 09 RMK with a fresh engine for $3500. Try to find a nice XP or M8 for that price. :face-icon-small-win

If 4 year warranty where only 400 then I would be doing that for sure. Too bad in Canada we get hosed with warranty. Snowchecking only gave three year and still about 1600 to get to four.

I'm well on the way to a 163" conversion now and will most likely suck up the extended warranty, then snowcheck in either 2014 or 2015. Both of which will be way better sleds than the 2013 :face-icon-small-dis
