Just what is the stimulus package stimulating?

ruffy, I am with you in thought, but I hate to tell you it will never boil down that way.

look, if your job is to put out fires, but you ge caught starting fires.....you are screwed. if your job is to call people and sell products, but you call people and talk smack about your products....you are screwed.

sooo, if your job is to make wise investments with other peoples money and you make bad investments.....you are scre......wait, on the list for a huge check from the gov't, of which you are responsible to pay back if you make money on it and only a small fee if you make a profit.

here is how it always works with gov't spending. the top dogs will get the $$ the working class guys will always get a few scraps. we can't allow or gov't to hand money out to the guys who screwed it up last time. give a new guy a chance to screw it up......or make it work.

the dough we dropped on th bailout could have just as well stayed in the presses and we would be no worse off.

New news, every single house republican and 11 dems voted no agains this bill, but it still passed.

This is the biggest wish list spending plan ever, full of things that won't stimulate anything but our frustration. Come on, can they be this stupid?

Not everything on this list is a bad thing, but this is not the right economic environment to increase spending on 75% of this stuff. If they want to kick start this ecomony, cut business taxes, capital gains. Motivate people to invest in our freaking economy and country!

Obama says this will create 3,000,000 jobs. At what cost? Over 250,000 per job! Give me a freaking break. A stroke of a pen cuts taxes and takes effect quickly, this is nothing but irresponsible spending that will take years to stimulate anything.

financial experts.. all of you!! LOL

The government should write all of you a check for 2800$ Where would you spend it?? and how would this help your country?

Living high on the hog is over, now you all have to pay. LMAO!!

Don't worry, it is happening up here also... That is why there are governments and laws... to keep all the cattle herded.

And for the people who think it is communism, they have no idea what they are talking about.

There you go... just another disgruntled, uneducated, propaganda pushing conservative who can't get his facts straight.

It's only $216,000 per job. Sheeesh.:rolleyes::face-icon-small-win:eek::eek::eek:

The fact that the population has been sold on this is beyond comprehension. It is impossible to tax your way out of a recession, and yet, that is EXACTLY what this package is.

It's moronic. There: I'm a name caller now:face-icon-small-ton

Read your history books. Spending money didn't bring us out of a depression in the 1930's and it won't bring us out of this recession.

Can't we have a redo, or better yet start over. Get ride of all of them, put most of the theifs in prison then vote in a new government. Thats sounds like a good fix to me. They can keep dumping money and keep getting the same results, NONE. They give money and its being used for personal agendas. Also the fact that this debt is going to be passed down for at least 2-3 more generations.

Yah it did... it was spent on the war and having 18 million people in manufacturing postions...

What do you think ended it? All the data I have seen points to large increases in national debt as we were climbing out of the recession..

How about give us your point of view instead of just saying it is wrong... I don't know, maybe some info too?:face-icon-small-con

Government spending has been shown to do exactly this... The last great depression wasn't over till all the countries were blowing money hand over fist to build weapons and stuff for war. That is what ended it... You know, the government paying money to people to work...

There is an interesting wiki on the great depression. Might be a good read. I saw many similarities between then and now......

Too bad we are already in a war... Guess we need a big one to get us out of here... Someone quick throw a rock at Russia, we need to get this fight started soon...

Seems you need to stimulate demand before giving the above incentives to the top (business owners are the top), otherwise the top will be reluctant to invest, as the demand is still shrinking or stagnant...

It is hard to grow a business without an increase of demand for you market, unless you are just increasing your own market share.. Which nets nothing...

They are saying that something like 10% or more could wind up "unaccounted for" by the time this fiasco is over. Wonder where all that money will wind up

Aparently ACORN got a 5.2 billion dollar peice of it

So happy the public is as intelligent as they are. No no no no, the DEMOCRATS would NEVER do anything patently corrupt, noooooooo

I own a small business, when things start to get tight, I don't go out and spend more money, I have to buckle down and budget my finances!!!

I could care less if I ever got a dime from the gov. I, as well as most of you have worked hard for all that we have. No handouts no bailouts and no whining. Gov handouts do nothing for this country, just makes more people assume that they are entitled to gov funds. Do people realize that those handouts come from our taxes. Lets see, by the time this is all over, the bailout total will be over 1TRILLION , yes that is what comes after 900 billion.

Big gov is not an answer,a group of people in D.C. can't possibly know what is best for west river S.D. or for N.D. we do not have the same needs or desires of those in CA. or TX. or N.Y. Here in the Black Hills we have some of the lowest unemployment in the nation our banks are stable not asking for a bailout.

This gov stress's me out more than any situation I have ever been in with my business, period....AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad:

I need a drink...........

If businesses got significant tax breaks do you think we'd be seeing the same number of layoff from MS, Boeing, Weyerhaeuser, Starbucks, etc? If people have jobs they have money to spend. Pretty simple if you ask me. I'm all for tax cuts for people too, but this is a democratic admistration.

Then there is the media coverage around all of these layoff. It is putting the fear of god into consumers and they are clinging onto thier money more than ever in fear of worse times to come.

Well, I was accounting for more pork getting added to the bill. ;) In reality, by the time the Senate gets it's pork added we'll be looking at 400k spent per job added!

It appears to me that our President, is attempting to recreate FDR's New Deal. The question is where will he expand the war on terrorism, to produce the war effort spending, which will run par to that of WWII? That honestly what brought our country out of The Great Depression. And the Democrates cry war mongers about the republicans.

War: President:

WWI Woodrow Wilson (Dem)

WWII Franklin Roosevelt (Dem)

Korean War Harry Truman (Dem)

Vietnam John F. Kennedy (Dem)

Gulf I G Bush Sr. (Rep)

Gulf II/War on Terrorism G Bush Jr (Rep)

WWIII? Barrack Obama/Nancy Pelosi?

The war(and the jobs it created) brought us out of the depression, not the spending(such as the New Deal) that preceded the USA entering WWII. The info is out there, I'm not going to look it up at 3 AM.

Here we are 80 years later and the same "economic stimulus package" is happening again. I'd bet the farm the majority of people in favor of this "stimulus package" have no clue about the events of the 1930's. Ignorance is bliss. I better stop before I get off on a huge tangent. :)
