Job Interview advice

im sure there will be some ? involving some safety issues, if you dont no just tell them you will ask your superviser the proper safety procedure for that particuler job. safety is a huge thing these days for any company.

The correct answer to this of course, " is celebrating the 5 year anniversary of you asking me this question".... Got to love Mitch Hedberg...

If you smoke, don't smoke before the interview... no one likes a stinker...
Don't be uptight, remember, it is just a job, there are a lot of them.....
Dress appropriately, clean shaven, and all....
Be very respectful, the guys interviewing you have more combined knowledge then you will every have.....

ruffy gets rep for even knowing who the best comedian ever, was ( RIP mitch )

" if you get lost in the woods, f**k it, build a house. i was lost but now i live here "

" the real estate agent says its a 2 bedroom house, i believe its up to me on how many bedrooms are in the house. this bedroom has an oven in it. this one has a bunch of people watching tv. this one is over in that guys house. "

.... ha, ha, ha...... this must be coming from someone in an HR dept. or does interviewing for government jobs :D
I agree...... be 100% respectful, but until someone proves their wisdom .... never ASSUME they are smarter than you are.

Nah, just experience interviewing with power engineers getting ready to retire... It is really hard for a new guy with 0 experience to prove wrong a group that has a combined 100 years plus of experience. There are many things that you don't get taught, think about, take as an assumption when learning.

Oh, and if you get a tough question, talk the problem out loud, and show them your thought process. They normally don't place an emphasis on getting the correct answer (that is what your peers are for) but they do like that you are trying to apply your technical knowledge in a systematic approach.

Educate yourself about the company and ask intelligent questions...if its a small company and the owner is doing the interview, find out about his history in the industry and ask questions about his/her path...it will help remind them of where they came from.

If pay/salary comes up in the first interview, just tell them you expect your compensation to be competitive with the industry (there will be plenty of chance to discuss details in later interviews).

Thank you all so much for your advice.

The job is a sales order entry position for a company that produces products for the natural gas industry.

I will let you know how it goes.

Yah, I never talked about salary till they told me they were interested and made an offer. Note that there is much more then just your annual pay, benefits, health care, 401k matching.. I have seen a difference of 10K with a job, but the benefits more than made up for it....

The interview went well. He told me he would give me a call by then end of the week.

Follow up on Thursday and thank him for the opportunity for the interview. If you think you really want the job, let him know that you think you are a good fit for the company, especially after what you learned at the interview. Also let him know how excited you are to learn even more about the company.

Now is the time to really sell yourself, and set yourself apart from the other interviewees..

Thanks again for all of your help. I got a job this morning at a car dealership in parts and sales. Entry level, but I am willing to earn my spot.

Thanks again!
