Jingle in secondary clutch

I just put the belt back on my sled and I noticed that the secondary clutch has a farely loud jingle coming from inside it. This noise will go away if i screw in the belt removal tool or if the belt is completely removed from the secondary. What is making this sound? Also how much play should the secondary have on the jackshaft? I have probably close to 1/8". This sled has 0 miles on it and this is how it came from factory. Thanks.

Jingle like if you move it back and forth? I would take it off and pop the helix out and see if the spring is broke. If it is just back and forth then mine use to have a tinging sound or clunking sound to it and that is normal. Let us know what ya find...

The rattle is normal, it is a washer between the 2 sheaves. The play is also required side to side on the jackshaft for belt alignment.

It sounds to me like the big washer is floating freely. Between the two sheaves is a large washer that the belt adjustment bolt rests on at idle, and the belt removal tool pushes against. My guess would be that your belt is not being allowed to ride all the way up the sheaves and let the two pieces come back to rest clamping this washer tight.

ya i pulled the helix off and there was nothing out of the ordinary inside. I am sure its that washer between the sheeves. Thanks for the help.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this might warrant some additional investigation. If the belt adjustment bolt is roughly where it should be, the sheaves should come back to rest and hold the washer tight. If the belt is not allowed to ride all the way up the sheaves at idle, it might mean that the belt is hanging up on the primary. Is the primary shifting all the way open for idle, and is the clutch center to center distance spot on? What if you put on an older belt to see if a slightly narrower (used) belt allows the sheaves to meet at the washer?

i know the play on the secondary is normal ive heard 20- 40 thousanths how ever you spell that i just had to deal with same questions my has a little jingle but not that loud when pressure in the sec. the pressure pulls the sec. out so all the gap is in the back engine side of motor so the washer(spacers) are moving around that little bit. MAYBE

check the primary crown looking lock nut

Another possibility for clutch ringing; although it is from the primary...

here is the thread from last year:

http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=199746

a lot of guys were hearing the jingle and having a hard time tracking it down. the lock nut is on the main shaft holding the spider nut. the spider is self tightening and probably as it tightens the lock nut lossens and can back off and rotate around the end of the shaft "ringing"

Let us know what it is...

I haven't even started the sled yet because I have no pipe on it right now. But right now the belt is down in the sheeves on the secondary. If i take the belt off so that the sheeves can close together then it goes away. So I am pretty sure you got it right the frist time.
