Jetting for rx1 turbo?

Just bought an 03 rx1 with bender rear mount turbo. At wide open it cuts out like the choke is on. It came from a lower elevation than I ride. What are you running at 6000 to 11000 feet elev. Pieto jet is a 200 , was 300 and barely run. Someone told me to try 20 pilots, 142.5 mains Any Help would be apreciated

This sled is a kick in the pants!!!!!!!!
No longer a virgin for boost

You need to post your question here:

This it the Totallyamaha supercharger and turbo forum. You will find your answer here.

My buddy has a setup similar to your and we were frustrated for years until he put a snorkel on his turbo inlet. He was sucking snow into the inlet and it was collecting in the intercooler and the sled would pop like crazy in the powder but, it worked well on the trail to and from the truck.

Good Luck

We just got back from West Yellowstone. I had my Bender stage II turbo with 130 mains and a 800 pitot jet. It is still way rich. I still have to work out the one lean spot at about 50 MPH. I just bump the choke a little and all is well. I want to drop down to 127.5 on the mains, but I will wait until I get the midrange lean spot figured out.

Get yourself a wideband A/F guage. Don't guess that it is lean or rich. Not worth a rebuild. Find out for sure.

I've done a lot of work on a Bender sled and it is very fussy about the jetting. The first thing you need to do is put on a huge air filter out behind the seat then you will want to be jetted around 130 or 132.5 but until you've got a good air supply it'll never run right. What are you running for fuel, boost, compression, BOV's, fuel pressure etc?

COYamaha, has a SCRX with a R&M hood and vent kit which may be close to getting as much air as ur rear mount. It took 2-3 seasons to get it dialed for 10k plus where we ride. Anyway..PM him. His is dialed and makes perfect AFR's. We do alot of riding at Togwotee and he keeps great notes. He'll have a set up for there as well.

Knowing COYamaha's growing pains with shops that tried to help, but don't ride our elevation, or had little experience with the amount of air and R&M hood and vent kits adds. We found Trey and he is our go to guy. HA Boost out of salida, CO. Trey does a tona turbo installs. http://haboost.com

Good luck. Wish I had carbs. Fuel Controllers Suck...

I am running 30% 111 octane racing fuel, 70% premium. Boost on High mode is only at 9psi. Rpm's are coming in at about 9500 as for the rest I should know more after today. It is snowing hard so I think I'll tear it apart and see what I have to work with. I do not have an air/fuel gage, can you recomend a good one for this application? Thanks

I use the NGK/NTK A/F guage and in all honesty would not buy another. It works but it uses the Bosch sensor which it eats on a regular basis at 80 bucks a shot. What is your air intake setup? Crank up your boost by shortening the rod on the turbo from the vacuum pot by about 1 1/2 turns to start. 12lbs will bring up your revs to 10,300 - 10,500 where they should be. No point in jetting for the wrong rpm. If you crank up the boost run 50/50 race/pump.

I have tore into this sled this morning, this is what I found:
boost rod is all the way open
BTW: I forgot to tell you it has a huge obnoxious air filter already
Mains: 135
power jet: 75
pilot: 17.5
pitot jet: 200

This looks like the stock settings to me?

I did notice that one tube attaching from the pitot jet to the carbs basically fell apart when I touched it. would this cause a problem at wot? Would an air leak in the pitot line cause it to run rich or lean?
I think this may be my problem, when I first rode it above my house it did not have the bog at wot. Many of the hoses and tee's are very brittle, I will replace all and try it.

As for clutching that will have to be another post, it has heel clickers, they look like I fabed them up in high school. phillips head screw with washers stacked on it protruding from the ramp
Thanks

I've been working the jetting on my 03 RX-1 all season. Have a rear mount stage one also. Running 50/50 on the fuel, and ride at 7-10k ft.
Tried smaller jets on the mains and it ran terrible. Went to 142.5 and it runs much better. No AF guage though to know where I'm at. Pilots are 20s. It runs better but still boggs down on the bottom end. Climbing, I'm getting 55 mph for the track speed. Also, last trip out I got 53 miles and the tank showed empty.
We're going to look for an air leak this week. Hopefully we'll find something.

Check your charge tube in the tunnel for leaks. I had two welds that were torn open and leaking BAD. Also put in billet carb T's. Pressure up your system and you will probably find a bunch more leaks. I am getting close on mine, just need to solve the midrange lean spot.

I love boost and I am hooked for life.LOL

Yah absolutely the pitot changes things dramatically. I never even thought to mention you should buy the billet tees from MPI and replace all your hoses with silicone and I mean all.

Just a follow up...found 2 exhaust leaks on mine today and 1 leak in the charge tube. Also found a crack in the line to the carbs. All repaired, so we'll see what happens tomorrow.

I called MPI and they no longer service the billet T,s

Get ahold of Jannetty on Totally 4 Stoke. He can get you the t's. I just got a set from him. Very nice guy too and very knowledgeable. I don't know where you are located, but Dustin at Outlaw Motorsports in Enterprise, OR is the man! He know's these turbo's too! Both great guys that won't steer you wrong. I'm chasing some lean conditions on mine too. Not fun having it popping on you under boost or climbing! Good luck.
