Jettin an 04 rev

Curious as to what i should do for tuning it. you can see the stuff i have done in my signiture. It had 380s in it when i got it and that caused a hole to start in one of the pistons and burn down on the exhaust side so i threw 420s in i had laying around. now it seems i have an air leak and it doenst want to come off the powerband. and ideas? going riding this weekend. anything helps!

Check your reed boots. Look real close. The stockers tend to fall apart and leak/
When you fix your air leak, jet until your plugs are cardboard colour.

i just put new pistons in it and i checked them very well when i had the cylinders out. so its not that. any other thoughts? my y pipe was a little loose. could that have caused it?

No..... check your carb boots again, thats probably your leak...... look closer. Bite the bullet and pull them completely. not fun but necessary

if not.....spray something flammable near the clutch side crank end when sled is running. Also spray carb / carb boot area while running. Don't use much at a shot. if you notice the rpms pick up you found your leak point.

I talkd to the guy that had it before me and he put an entire new motor in it less than a year ago and the dealer that put it in told me they are new boots. So don't think its that

Altitude?

What altitude doo you ride at with those 380s . My 04 runs 400s at 2000 to 6000 with stock reeds and does great. This year with a complete rebuild on the eng. I am installing a set of Boysen rage cage reeds, they say to drop the jetting down ONE size. Scarry to me if your haveing issues with 380s. Very hard to see some of the cracks in the reed boots...with the boots in a dark room hold a flashlight to the inside of the boots and look for cracks on the outside. Also as said above...crank seals, spray a small amount of wd 40 or starting fluid behind the clutch while eng is at a idle and see if rpms pick up..kinda hard to doo the mag side but it can be done. Good luck Dino

Doubt its the seals since its a new engine. Pry gonna try 400's and spray starting fluid on the boots. When i had the carbs disconnected the slides seemed to work good

Well tonight i sprayed the carb boots with starting fluid 3 times and the rpms didnt change at all and sprayed around the seals. i pulled the carbs and they were pretty gunked up. and the spring was broke on top of the slides. not sure what purpose they serve. and also the cable down in the crank case where the oil goes in was sticking pretty bad. hopefully ive solved it!

Those springs hold your carbs shut.
Looks like you have to do some major servicing before you go out riding.
I would almost guarantee that it is carb problems. Varnished parts make for a bad running machine.

Evinrude makes stuff called Motor Tuner. Works great to get the crud out of a carb. You will need to take the carb apart to use this stuff. Also, do not spray on rubber, it will make the o-rings swell and be worthless.

OLD THREAD!!! haha. and its got 400's in er now. seems to run great. did the full throttle test and the plugs are a great crisp brown color. seems to run good too bad tho, im starting to ride bikes now. im a powder type of guy and this time of year dont do it for me. thanks for all the info guys.
