Jefferson "Area Closed" Signs?

So we were riding in the Jefferson area of Island Park last week when we came upon some "area closed" signs. They had a picture of a snowmobile with an X through it. We were on the west side over at the head of Red Rock Creek and Hell Roaring. The signs were close to the Blair Lake and Lilian Lake areas. They looked like new signs from this year. Does anyone have any idea why these areas have been closed?

Did the signs have any official identification? Did you take any pictures? If they are not FS signs it's probably the guy who runs the ski school trying to scare riders away. He's done this before, but I don't think he can legally use the FS logo. I don't ride that area much, but last time I did we removed every sign we saw.

I didnt even think of that. That could be the case. They look like a forest service sign, but they could be something some idiot has just put up. I heard the FS was thinking of closing the area because it is to hard to access when someone gets in trouble. I don't know for sure though.

I've seen those red circles with slash over dirtbikes too, pretty sure it means keep going!!!

from what I remember the lower portion of hell roaring creek is closed and has been closed for a few years due to a big horn sheep wildlife preserve or something. Check the maps with the forest service, Actually, scratch that, I just tried to find some maps on the FS web-page, apparently there isn't one. If the FS cant even provide a free pdf online map of areas that are closed to sleds then forget it, I guess its free game.

Closed signs

The west end of HELL RORRING is closed to sleds by the F/S its leased to the ski outfiter and if you are caught YOU WILL GET A FINE!!

^^ As awesome as that is, I'd hate to lose more riding areas out there. Too much to see still!!

Does an X over the sled mean:

X-package sleds only?

Excellent riding here?

Extended riding area?

Expert riding only?

Exceptional conditions?

Just kidding. If it is closed, I hope we respect it as to not ruin our sports name.
