Jeep on Snowmobile trail?

Just read in ID. Statesman of 2 Eagle "men" who were rescued by snowmobile
after getting their jeep stuck 15 miles up a snowmobile trail...WTF? If it was indeed a snowmobile trail (Statesman not always accurate) I hope they throw
the book at em.

Saw it on the news last night. The way it sounded on the news is it was a great test in decision making survival in staying with the rig etc. The father and son didn't seem to grasp the stupidy of the act. In my view they needed to spend a couple days out there to really feel the effects of what they did. Look at the resources used to find them. It seems the two guys were going to a hot springs, they drove up while the snow was froze and when they got back later in the day the snow had melted thereby getting the rig stuck. It sounded that the forest service MAY fine them 300 bucks, I think they should pay all rescue costs, grooming costs for trail repair, and loose their truck to impound and public sale. Doing that would send the right message to others who may think about doing it. They also do not deserve to be on the news. Stupid Stupid Stupid:mad:

Watchd it on the news last night. It was 2 young retards (cousins) in there early 20's. They drove past several signs that said "Closed To 4 Wheel Travel". It was a road up to some hot spring's in the Garden Valley area. They made it in ok, but when they got ready to head back out they got stuck. Spent the night in the Jeep, then decided to walk out the 20 miles the next morning. They had just started to walk out when a snowmobiler with Search & Rescue found them. The news report did say they might be getting a $350 fine for driving past all those "Road Closed" signs. :D:D

They deserve to smooth out the trail with shovels to cover up their jeep tracks too.

Agreed. I hate when 4 wheelers start heading up the trails in the spring and turning an already beat up road into carbide catching ditches.

There was a truck stuck up on a trail at the snowys once.

They must of left it for a few days..by the end of the weekend it was beat to crap with rubber marks up and over the hood and windshield!

Sounds like stupidity fueled by alcohol to me,hope it costs them a lot more than $350.

We had a dip Sh!t drive up the Rutherford trail with his Jeep and got stuck. The club charged him 1500.00 bucks to pull it out with the groomer and re groom it.

If they don't want to pay, the next snowfall it kind of hard to tell if it a jeep or some bump to do a little jumping off. Retards, I hope not all jeep owners are like that!

Kinda sounds like all you guys were NEVER that age!!! I had to walk out and off the hills more times than I can count. When you were 19ish did you stop to think "what if the snow softens up"??? I sure the *** didn't!!! I said hold my beer and watch this!!!! Never had to be search and rescued but not sure they had that sh!t that long ago or my parents never bothered calling:)

Cut em a brake!!! $300 bones probly a BIG hit for the kids...

Throw the book at 'em!

Our season is short enough as it is, maybe they should think of what others are doing and give it a couple more weeks!

One of the trails in our area has had the birm broken down by the groomer to open the road when we went up a couple weeks ago, but I still didn't want to drive up it to the next lot that would have been available to park at, but at the end of the day coming down, we still saw several rigs parked and 4-wheelers DRIVING up the trail...I'll admit, they weren't harming it, but it still kinda annoyed me.

only a complete moron would do soemthing like that! you probably fit that bill....

Barney :D

$350.00 fine is not enuff to send a message to retards. What happens when me, the wife and my kids hit the ruts left in the trail on the return trip to the trailer????? I for one think this is complete BS. Off road is Off road. Closed road is Closed road. What other language do you need to "Dumb Sh!t's" need to know?

Last year, we were coming down a trail after a day of snowmobiling, when two punks in a honda car practically ran us of the trail. They were 6 miles up the trail, at the time it was about 5 degrees and getting colder. The groomer had not built up the berm yet to keep em out. We passed the groomer down the trailer later and complained to him. Next day the berm was there. But what kinda idiot drives up 6 miles on 3 1/2 ft. of snow in a car. As far as we could tell, they only had light weight jackets on. No car left on the trail, so I assume they made it out ok. Probably with help from the groomer.

Few years back, we ran into a kid and his girlfriend in her parents Subaru station wagon half way between Cook and Moose Lodge. They treid to go around a uphill curve and started to slide down in a steep ravine We tried to push him out but it was going down. He was trying to talk us into hooking a sled on the car to pull, we left him cussing us. I'm sure they had to take a snow cat up to get it out. I bet she's got a new boyfriend.LMAO.

Shoulda pushed the Jeep into the ditch and left it there for the winter. Stupid Bastages!! I have no sympathy for them.

OH thats right it is YOUR trail only right?
Part of 4x4ing is getting stuck, some 4x4 rigs will go further then your snowmobile will

So unless the trail is designated only to YOU (snowmobiles) then they have every right to be on that trail IMO

Now it seems these guys drove past the "closed to 4x4 vehicles" signs, that right there is just plain stupid... but for you to come on here saying I hate it when 4x4ers go on our trail is just ignorant to me.

I take my bronco on trails all year round, some of these trails are used by ATV's, snowmobiles, 4x4's, snowshoers, heck even horses....do you hate them too?

Here in MT it is illegal to ride anything but a tracked vehicle on groomed trails. I don't care if you are on horses, atv's or bicycles, if you're on it in an illegal vehicle out of season, I hate you and will be waiting at the bottom with the sherrif or FS Ranger. I have sacrificed riding days to wait it out at the trailhead with rangers. I have caught up to law breakers, snapped their photos with my phone, then turned around rode out, loaded up, driven to cell reception areas, called the rangers and went back to the trailhead and waited. Yeah , it sucks that i'm not riding, but the look on their faces when they see the ranger is priceless. They know they were breaking the law, and they thought it was funny. Most of them don't think so after their rigs are impounded. What don't people understand! CLOSED IS CLOSED!
