Jaw's bleu up

I went riding last week with my 600 and with a few others on there 503's:D:D

Every thing went well (except for the visit to the doctor ) ;this weekend my buds took out the hawk and the pipe on the lower end bleu up or broke apart some how.:face-icon-small-dis

My Hawk does not have major time on it; but can this be welded or does it need to be replaced?
Fortunately Onewoodsrider :cool:was there to help my bud as I was resting on the couch.

So my question is what to do with this pipe or buy something else.

I did notice that the 600 digs in a lot in the snow would a 136 or 144 be better on this type of Hawk?
We got the chance to ride a 503 with the 136 and it was tons better but I am not sure it would be long enough for the power of the 600.

Thanks again Onewoodsrider for your help this weekend.

What do you think?

Do you think that condensation settles there and my be rusting the pipe or is it because of the vibration so close to a semi ridged mounting point?

But welding my work; that sounds promising.

121 works great for running trails and playing in moderate powder if you wanna play in 2 1/2 or more feet ofpowder a 136 will float you better . On your exhaust ... weld her up and full throtle again , been many a broken and fixed that way !

Check the alignment on the pipe outlet to silencer inlet. I had one season on my '05 600 and the misalignment caused the pipe coupler to eat out and have a major exhaust leak. The weld on pair of sockets are availabe from Jaws for about $15. I had to space the silencer mounts out with a couple of washers to get the alignment correct.

I had to weld my pipe up this year and it works fine. I have also had to warranty out the can. once and weld up the replacement can. Not big problems but kind of a pain the arse. Just weld it and ride it. Good luck and Good riding.

Chw ;I see that you have both a stock and long track which do you prefer and why.

On a 600 would is your view on a longer track ?

My long track with the simmoms floats real good. Stays up on top pretty well. I have it in town where I tend to ride the deeper stuff.

My short track I keep at work. It seems like it warms up and rains more out there and we typically get hard pack just under some fluff so that works well also.

Just another note on the muffler. Two seasons ago I nosed into a stump at a real slow speed. The from subframe dinged my muffler and I think that it started a hairline fracture right at the muffler. Not long after is when the pipe broke off right at the muffler. I had the mechanic braze it up as the brazing material flexes a little more than some of the welding filler.

Just my 2 cents,

Chris

Heard about the broken leg!

Now I know why you insisted on keeping that Twoski!

On another note your 2005 may be an earlier model actually a 2004 rebadged, those seemed to have the blowouts more than others.

Theirry was on here talking about the custom one Turbo Al in Revelstoke made him, seems that is the avenue we should head, quality replacements.

Were you chewing gum too?

Try to find a new quiet pipe its well worth the effort putting on and my machine runs a whole lot better, if you can believe it you need to richen up the mixture with the new pipe. More fuel = more power.

Thanks for the input

TCSKIBIKE - what size is your Hawk and whet quite pipe fit?

Cwh - i will look into the old school brazing reither than the wire feed

Is it very hard to find a pipe that will work within the Hawks plastic?

snowhawkaddict- Thank you for your input as well.
Funny you should have that very comic book - isnt that the issue he losses most of his feathers(villans are a bi#ch) Humbling though!

You are welcome.

But what you don't know is just like the kid in school the magazine cover conseals the dirty magazine inside!

If I had read comic books my imagination would be quite boring.

Now get that muffler fixed and send that Hawk out with someone that can ride it.

Thats an order!

Oh to be stuck in the middle

Did you know that comics have a higher resale than baseball cards (did not think so; you were probably too proud to have them that is; you being T.B S and all.

Having played most sports and doing too many stupid things(on and off the machines) that should have hurt me way more than slipping on ice going to help a woman get unstuck from a snowy road.
Not that you care how I broke my leg or why (take it how you can get it son) As to my ability to ride my Hawk or my friends for that mater it wont matter to you much either.

I see the value in things most people would over look; My Hawk may have been underpaid for; according to you but still a great value to me and I will be keeping it Thanks for the order .

Also let it be said that you never influenced my decision to by a Hawk; in fact ; had I read this forum and or your posts before my purchase I might not have gotten one at all; the negative vibe you consistently spread is sad really.

There value to purchase will never rival those dirty little books you referred to (comics) but the value with family and friends while riding one and even loaning it out so you can see there surprise and excitement in riding one for the first time (priceless).
Having cool stuff is cool but sharing them with others is even better really.

There is a part of me that might be offended by your total lack of respect for others. But May I remind you that you don’t know me personally and you should be more carful who you disrespect.

No, did not realize that about comics and cards.

Hindsite, should have invested in others childhoods before extending mine and those around me.
Could have thrown ten times at the Snow Hawk.

Sucks no matter how you injured yourself. loosing the first season on your new toy to an accident is not fair to anybody.

The humor for me came pryor to, the details bring on the sympathy, hope she thanked you for your efforts rather than asking who would help her next. Was it her other half that jumped first at your selfless generous offer to ride your Snow Hawk? Be warry if they invite you to "dinner"!

It's about time the damn machines started selling themselves, tired of being one of the lone perps!

The smiles and excitement you speak of could only come from one place, it vindicates my years of antagonation, thanks for the provoked participation on the forum for the next lucky Snow Hawk owner their appriciation will be forever.

I have a 04 600 which came stock with the Jaws pipe, later years had a specific pipe designed for the Hawk from Mabach I believe.

so you must be Addic

So you find it funny (humorous) when you hear about someone getting hurt.

You know for me post surgery it is not so funny really; and I don’t find pleasure in the pain of others; including people I don’t particularly like.

Having that said if you don’t have any constructive information on the issue please refrain from comment

This is not your personal chat room; if you want to pick on people and provoke responses go to your local bar and see what your results are.
Even with your relative size you may find talking to people face to face a whole lot different and you results will not be in the form of text.

So once again if you don’t have any information (don’t comment)

Here is a pic of the quiet pipe installed. This is the only other product that will fit a hawk.

Those are some great photos. What is the name of the pipe and where do you get them?
It looks tight but if it works and is quieter that is a big plus.

Thanks again for your time in helping me

Check the rubbers.

TC and any others so equiped the rubber vibration dampners at the upper suitcase fail often, been carrying a set around in my lunch box for some time looking for industrial replacements.

Also tried a crossover pipe eliminating the suitcase, strait to the lower can, had a muffler shop bend it up one day, never got it to seal right though.
The noise level stayed close to with the suitcase so I believe most of the sound dampening comew from the insulated expansion chamber.

Hugs Scott!
