its on right now!!!!!!!

I can't believe that the guy flying the little yellow ultralite thought the airplane would just sit there! What a dumbazz! He of all people conducting the experiment should have known how that was going to turn out. Guess he doesn't know a whole lot about how the airplane actually works. Jesse.

I agree totally!! I brought that up on the other thread too.

wait a second.. lookslike to me that you could be contradicting what you said a few minutes ago......

"I can't even believe they are trying that. They should be smarter than that. The only thing the treadmill does is provide ground speed. That don't mean chit. It needs to either be moving through the air, or have a big fan if front of it to simulate airspeed, at least if they want it to stay in one place, or "hover".

?????

I was also surprised that a pilot wouldn't know that it would fly. Especially with his plane only needing 25 mph airspeed to take off. With that he could take off in 0 feet in a 25 mph headwind. You would think that he would know that. Pretty simple concept.

I kept trying to tell people last year until I was blue in the face.

How did I contradict myself? The only thing the treadmill, or the big tarp did, was to spin the tires, causing an artificial ground speed. That is all it does. How fast those wheels spin has nothing to do with how it flies, or if it will fly. I only watched a few seconds of the treadmill. Didn't they say something about it staying in one place, kinda like flying over the treadmill, but not moving? That is where the fans, or some sort of head wind comes into play. Groundspeed doesn't have anything to do with the actual flying of the airplane. About the only useful thing ground speed is for is for figuring out how long it is going to take to get from point a to point b, or if you are doing some kind of work where your actual speed over the ground is important. But, for just for the sake of flying an airplane, groundspeed is irrelevent. Jesse.
