Just be careful!

When you are facing windshield hill, to the far left there is a tempting little chute that is begging you to climb it.

well, that chute is very narrow at the bottom, and widens as you go up. That chute is a prime area for slides. When it lets loose, there is nowhere to run or hide.

A few years ago a kid got killed there.

It looks awesome, but it is a death trap......

That frickin thing slides every year. When I take guys in this area I point it out to STAY THE HELL OUT OF THERE! I had to dig a guy out of there in 06 that wasn't with our group. It isn't something I want to do again.

Where is Windshield Hill, does any one have a picture?

It's a little ridge in the bottom of Hell Roaring between Reas Peak and Mount Jefferson. It's known by many names. Windshield hill, The Bread loaf, Cow Face and several others. (depending on who you are with)

It isn't a very big hill (2 - 250 feet high) but it is frickin steep and when the snow is deep and fresh you may or may not climb up it.

I'll have to see if I can find you some pictures of it.

Here are a couple of picts of said hill. In Pict 1389 Windshield hill/Razor Back is at the very bottom of the pict with Mt Jefferson being the larger one in the background. In pict 1392 windshield/the razor back is straight ahead. The chute they are saying to stay out of, I believe, is if you went to the left of the razor back and followed that canyon up to the top of Mt Jefferson. I have climbed this once back in the day on a old 700 turbo. The trip up was fun but the trip back down was scary as heck. It was in the spring. I to have seen this slide and pile up in the bottom.

A few years ago we had a good sized slide break on the razor back also.

Thanks for the pointer. I have never ridden that face of Jefferson.
Your right, that chute is clearly screaming 'stay out....' :fear:
