Is this starting problem odd or just a fluke ??

Ive had my m7 since last season this season did a bunch of checking everything over and did clutching got it running right (a couple months ago) anyways since when i got it its ran great and always started by second or 3rd pull if it was cold or when i let it sit or usually like 2nd pull at the most at elevation like after sitting for a while or for lunch. Yesterday i unload it off the trailer (2-3k ft. like always) ride up to a new spot for me (5-6k ft or so) anyways riding fine shut it off once or twice on the way up (hot and the engine light came on (not the code light and not the coolant light but figure it was hot because of the day and no scratchers down) and it did it my 2nd ride out with it last season then grabbed some powder and went away didn't bog or loose power or anything) So anyways shut it off put the scratchers down and grab some powder off the trail watched it the rest of the time didn't come back on so figure its hot i don't know why the coolant/temp light didn't come on but that's what happen that once before. Anyways keep riding all day its going great climbing and tree riding having a great time stop at the cabin sleds pointed (down hill which it usually is when i stop) and had a hell of a time starting it after sitting maybe 20 mine or a bit more for lunch usually 2 pulls max but it was a good 10-15 pulls finally with a bit of throttle it started so i said ill watch it or look for lights nothing no bogs or lights and runs fine screaming like it should so climbing then stopped and it started fine a couple times stopped for 5-10 mins started fine again in like flat down hill sideways etc. etc. so stop at the cabin again pointed down hill for 10 mins or so had a hard time starting it same again. Then end of the day it was still running fine i started it fine a couple times after that when i stopped real quick but last climb of the day i highmarked my buddy and sidehilled out his sidehill washed out and he dug in so i shut the sled off and walk across the hill a ways probably gone from my sled 10-15 mins come back its pointed down hill it wont start probably close to 10 pulls and a bit of throttle it started. I'm going to keep a eye on it friday and/or saturday when i go out. Its never done it before but i mean i don't get it,it only did it the few times i was riding in a new spot but that shouldn't matter and it only seemed to do it those three times when pointed down hill (maybe a coincidence it was pointed down hill everytime :face-icon-small-con) but i had a b*tch of a time starting it those few times. Just wondering what it could be if anyone has any ideas or maybe if it was just a fluke or it was just warm day and the sled was hot or something ?? Just want some ideas and like i said ill keep an eye on it next ride and report back if it does it again to. But any ideas or thoughts or things to check or watch out for would be appreciated !!! :usa2: :face-icon-small-hap

Thanks in advance like i said just need some insight, maybe it was just a fluke or bad fuel or something dumb just want ideas !!

What kind of drugs were you on to make that long of a post, complete with a story, with that many long sentences and the random, endless parentheses! ;) I just want some...that's all I'm saying. As for any constructive help...sorry, no idea...I'm purely here to give you a hard time. Almost sounds like you are flooding, but don't know if that's possible with EFI.

Exactly and the once now that i think about it it kind of did smell like fuel. Also thanks for the hard time :face-icon-small-win. Anyone else got ideas ?

My M's have always been harder to start when pointed on a fairly steep downhill. Don't know why but they have always started, just with a little more work. On my big bore M7 I noticed it would load up on downhills for some reason also, so all I can figure is it does richen up somehow when pointed downhill. It was never THAT big of a deal so I never spent much time trying to figure out why.

Ok thanks just odd as it never happened before really like i said 2 3 pulls max and it only seemed to happen when it sat for a while if i stopped for a min or so it would start right up but for 10 mins or more it was 10+pulls and has never done that before. Just wanted to see if anyone knows anything or has had the same thing happen, if anyone has anymore info please comment. Also the hills were probably a bit steeper, ill just keep a eye on it, Im sure its fine just wante to ask.

you should check your fuel pressure, it may be bleeding off as it sets or your smart valves in the tank could be partly plugged not getting you fuel pressure. or maybe the fuel pump or stator could be getting weak....

Ill keep an eye on it this is my first m series and only got it end of last season. Maybe it is something maybe its a fluke ill keep an eye out it and if i have to check the things you guys said. Also it does have 3500 original miles to. Also could it be a fuel filter getting clogged a bit ? Or could it have been bad gas, i filled up at a place in town i dont usually fill up???

How would i go about checking/testing fuel pressure also how could i check the fueul pump and stator ? Also why would it start bleeding now after all this time ?

Edit: I don't know if i said this but 2 times if i remember correctly i know one for sure it smelt like fuel like it was flooded, from my bit of research it could be over fueling, could this be true, if so how to i go about checking could it be a sticky/gummed up fuel pump, regulate it ? Also like i said when i go out next ill keep a eye on it and see if it does it leave it for a while parked up hill to test that way and then down hill and see if i can smell fuel if i have a hard time starting it this next time.

Ok so the new guys dont have to reread, I have a question last ride out like 3 times after the sled sat for a while and it was pointed downhill i had a hard time starting it had to pull like 10+ times and hold the throttle like it was a flooded carbed sled (it is efi) and then i sware i smelt fuel like it was flooded but got it to start. Today it was all fine all day then once i come down and we were helping a guy the sled sat for like a hour or a bit more and it was a pain to start (usually take a couple more pulls when i come down cause of the change in elivation) but today it took me about 8 pulls or so and using the throttle a bit, do you know why that could be ? Could the fuel pump be going or fuel filter be getting clogged also i had 3 slight bogs when i would gun it into the throttle and i had the happen once the other day with the starting problems and this is all new as of these past two rides got any ideas ? I really want to figure out what this is for the most part its not doing it but it never use to happen in the past year and a half ive had the sled, any info you have would be greatly appreciated. Also if you got questions ask away guys. Thanks :face-icon-small-win

The next time it does it grab the throttle and pull it and see if it starts. Its either the regulator or the throttle stop switch is what it sounds like to me

I have no kill switch if that matters at all so that eliminates the tps right ? Also yes I've had to grab the throttle to get it started these couple times it's dont this, so you think its the throttle stop ? How do i fix it ? Also if it matters and i didn't say it i noticed that theres a little play in the throttle/throttle cable latley, like the throttle sometimes is a bit toward the bar like theres a little slack in the throttle cable if you understand what im saying, its not enough to make the sled move or bring the rpms up.
