Is this Head Still Good? (pics)

A large chunk of the skirt on the PTO piston on my M7 blew out, fell down into the crankcase and pieces made its way to the top end where, with the piston, caused some pitting on the cylinder head. My mechanic buddy says my head should be replaced but my neighbour down the street, who is a small engine expert, says leave it alone (most of the pitting is on the outer circumference and the combustion chamber center portion not as badly hit).

Please see pics attached. I would value your opinion. Thx.

Any relatively sharp points in the combustion chamber will run hotter (possibly glow red hot) and can cause pre-ignition. That being said, the cylinder heads you have there look perfectly fine. Any sanding or grinding you do is apt to lower the compression ratio. Just run the sucker.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the (uniform, consensus) input.

I'm gonna run it as is with perhaps a bit of sanding if there are any real high spots.

My mechanic put mine on a lathe and turned it with some scotch bright pads to get it smoothed down a big, works just fine. You don't need a new head.

you should see mine.

You should run it, yours looks like brand new compared to mine and it has been running strong for 3 years now. when my engine blew it left big gouges and marks in the head just had it machined so it was level and it works great.
