I live in granite falls and have been trying to tune my sled, can I ride it up the loop where they gate it off or are there any sno-parks up that way? tuning it up close to home beats a drive to roslyn to have it break down.

I used to ride up there when I was barely able to touch the running boards. Haven't been up there in years. I heard they just opened the road a few months ago. They blocked the road past Verlot. We always road toward Big 4 and Monte Cristo.

The road is closed at Deer Creek. Thats just a little ways past Silverton. There is a turn around at the end and parking along the side of the road. Please don't park in the turn around. Theres lots of tubers and skiers. Trail is not groomed.

We used to ride up there but did not last 2 years, not enough snow, should be enough this year. Not much boondocking but you can sure test your sled. There are a couple of side roads to get into the deeper stuff. You can also ride Green Mountain it is even closer. For better riding head towards Darrington and ride Segelson, there is some boondocking and climbing up there. Swampy:D:beer;

Hey GADGETMONKEY, I was up at segelson on Tuesday and could have used my chainsaw. If you go up there take one with you and plenty of saw gas and bar oil. You can't get to the snowpark and trees are down every 50 yds or so for about 4 or 5 miles starting about 1 mile before the snowpark.

Check the Groomer's schedule for the area. Once he goes in there it will be cleared of all the downed trees.

sweet my two most favorite things logging and sledding

just don't want to do too much logging when i'm dressed like the Michelin man, the hard part will be lashing the 044 onto the sled. thank you i checked the groomer schedule and found it a little cryptic did they saythursday or not till jan 17 thursday?.....i'm so confused.

thanks for the heads up since it so close and less chance of running into cross country greenies like the MT loop has to offer I'll have to give it a try.

A buddy gave me the name after I hit the broken top of a tree coming down from peanut knob in late May a few years back. Just about tore the left ski off the sled. then I kinda bumped into a few up at Gold Creek last year.
I'm going to try to get up to segelson on sunday and take my saw and see if can help the groomer out. we had a NWGC meeting last night and I was told the groomer appreciates all the help he can get.

At Segelson today, trees are able to be avoided but are still down. No grooming because of the trees, good coverage, park before the snowpark (trees) really a boring place to ride though. Not a lot of parking, 4 trucks and trailers= full. Then some hikers showed up and blocked the turn around.

A Li'ttle Rough Understatement!!!

i WAS UP THERE TODAY AND STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH MY BEATER IT SEEMS TO RUN OUT OF FUEL AND DIES i'M THINKING STRAINER AND FILTER TO MUCH RESISTANCE FOR THE PUMP,OH WELL SEGELSEN HAS MORE TREES DOWN THEN SNOW ON THE GROUND. COULDN'T FIND DECENT TURNAROUND HAD TO DROP THE TRAILER AND TURN THEM SEPERATELY PAIN IN THE BACK i'LL TELL YA,
i WISH i STILL HAD A KEY FOR 5000 OH WELL.
iSAW A COUPLE OF DRAGONS RISKING THEIR CARBIDE'S TO SEGLSEN GRAVEL i WAS QUITE SURPRISED THAT AND A FEW PHASERS PROBABLY PERFECT FOR THE SNOW AT HAND. HOPEFULLY i CAN GET IT WORKING BETTER FOR NEXT WEEKEND.

bump. Who rides up to Monte Cristo? I haven't been there since I was little on some old air cooled 70s sleds... looking to do some ski touring this year.. any photos? is the new road going to be rideable?

Thats a BIG bump 2008, I don't know anything about riding at monte cristo, but if it's going to be a secret spot I want in. Side note as I was reading those posts I'm pretty sure I have a story about that storm. I used to ride Segelson solo all the time even at night. Pretty sure that was the time I decided to go up in the middle of a blizzard after work got stuck at the top for a couple hours came back down and there were 3 huge trees blocking my way to the truck!! luckily only about a mile from it. Walked down to the truck drove home to Arlington grabbed the saw drove back up by this time 530 was compact snow all the way there. Had to clear about a dozen trees to get to the snow park finally made it to the snow park and then blew a tire. Realized my then new to me truck didn't have a tire iron. Finally had to admit defeat and had to have my Dad drive up and save my ***. He had to clear a quite a few trees on his way up also. Needless to say he was pretty pissed I was 19 at the time and wasn't the best time in our father son relationship but he saved my *** more times than I could ever count.(Thanks Dad) We finally get home around 8 am and the power at the house was out to end the day and it stayed that way for 5 days. THE END
