Is the belt on my Nytro too tight? Pics included

Belt pic is attached. I had put about 100 miles on my sled and the belt was starting to look a little loose. According to the manual it was. I added an additional washer to each of the 3 bolts on the back like the manual said, I'm not at home but once I get home I can measure the washers with calipers to tell how thick they are. If I'm reading the manual right the belt now looks to be about where it should be.

Yesterday I took it out for my first ride since the adjustment. On the hardpack it felt fine but once I get into the powder something was not right. The RPMs were climbing but the track wasn't doing much. I even hit the rev limiter a couple of times which has never happened before. It wasn't doing this 100% of the time but definitely in the deeper snow and when climbing up hills. It was a pretty frustrating day, it caused me to get stuck a few times.

Did I over tighten my belt? How do I know if the belt needs to be replaced? Would I have been better off riding it with the belt a little loose rather than too tight?

Sorry for all the questions but this is all new to me and I would like to get back out riding ASAP.

Thanks,
Dan

WTF I will try to help. As far as the picture of your belt, it looks about right, if you get it too high in the secondary usually the belt will squeal some when idleing. As far as the RPM gain without track speed my guess would be the primary clutching in not right, but I am no clutch expert by far. I find it is better to get out the checkbook when it comes time to clutching, someone usually has put in the time to figure it out, you just have to be willing to pay them for the time LOL.

I doubt if it's too tight sitting that low in the secondary . You probably would have heard a squeel when idling too if it was too tight .Adding those washers basically geared your sled differently , and you're feeling the difference . I'd probably take the washers back out .

doesnt look bad, I am surprised you had to touch anything with a 100 miles. if it is letting go in the powder I would be thinking you have snow or water dripping on the primary, or you have something binding in the clutches. Did you get the primary spring back in the correct setting? if you put too much twist it will bind and do what you are talking about. good luck julio

sounds to me like something isnt right did you change anything else or have the clutch apart sounds like something is binding not letting your clutch grab the belt.

I had the same issue with my Apex I did not wind the sping right.

I'm not sure what you mean, could someone explain further? The only thing I touched was adding the 3 washers, one to each bolt where it said to in the manual.

Also, it wasn't doing it constantly but it was squealing at idle occasionally. Should I remove the 3 washers?

I believe everyone is assuming you have disassembled the secondary to set your belt height. By looking at your picture it is hard to say too tight or loose. Belt does not look to high but if you are experiencing any belt squeel then you are too tight. Belt deflection is critical for proper shifting and i would simply remove the washers and run it again to see if your problem disappears.

my guess is it didnt need the washers & its not letting it shift out all the way so it will over rev,try removing the washers see if it stops the prob.

Did you remove your helix and spring when you did this? if so, make sure you wind the spring clockwise when you slide your helix back on to the studs, CCW won't preload spring, just an idea!!!
Cheers
