Is Sledding as a family sport dead?

Its great to see some people still have their priorities straight. Its too bad so many people don't get their kids outdoors much anymore. I think alot of people don't realize how important and confidence inspiring these types of activities are to young people. I grew up in northern Canada and by 8 years old I was allowed to take our 84 250 tundra out to our ice fishin shack and spend the night on my own. By 10 my friends and I were spending days at a time boat camping on islands catching way more fish than we could eat. I had no concept of how lucky I was as a kid. It amazes me now when I talk to people with kids who won't even let them walk to school.
Your kids will be forever grateful when they are old enough to look back realize the awesome outdoor recreational opportunities you provided them with!

Allowing them the freedom to be a kid will help them develop skills that pay off bigtime in the longrun.. especially experiencing different situations in the outdoors.. i grew up in a dang tree for the most part, i can't count the number of teepees, treeforts, and tree bridges i buit when i was a kid, what did i learn? basic construction and support skills. stupid but real.. i think i learned alot more about the rules of the road from atv's, snowmobiles, and dirtbikes than i could have ever learned from a class room.. they can be taught all you want them too, but the experience is what they learn from.. i still remember steering our ol 69 ford around the mountain sittin on dads lap while he ran the gas clutch and gear shift.. was fun then but i learned alot from it..

my family still rides together. We ride trails till me n my dad get bored, and then we stop and let the kids(my sister and other younger members of our possy) ride in a meddow and we go do a quick climb then continue

My husband and I take our kids whenever possible.....our 12 year old son rides all the time with us to the mountains. Our 10 year daughter only does flatland trail riding stuff on her Arctic Cat 340 when we like to take a trip to the family cabin and do the odd trail ride. Our son started at age 3 on a Z120 and quickly progressed, now he's 12 (about 98 lbs) and riding an 08' M6 with a 153" track. He can ride most of the steep stuff that most of the guys do.....he's fearless and the M6 is a perfect match for him for now.
