Is my head too fat?

Today I received a new 509 Altitude XXL helmet.
It seems tighter than a frogs azz.
Do these helmets run small?
Do they loosen up as the padding breaks in?
Just trying to decide if I keep it or return it.

Thanks

im not a big guy, 5 11" and 155# (not a lot of spare meat on me) and i wear one of their XL helmets and it fits nice and snug. If you got any extra meat around your neck/head the XXL get small fast. I have helped guys into 3x and 4xl helmets a few times this year and i would not have guess they would have needed them. big thing is big cheeks. The new helmets are all getting tigther around the face region to be safer but as a result guys with thick necks and big cheeks tend to need some big azz helmets!

So you are saying it will not loosen over time & I should return it & look for a 3x or 4x?

I have never had luck with them loosing up (helmets in general). It seems like if they don't fit right from the start they never fit right. With that said the 509 C2 helmet in a 2xl is bigger then then Altitude in a 2xl. I don't believe they make a 3xl in the altitude yet. The KLIM F4 fits a bit larger along with the HJC stuff. I'm sure there are other brands but those are the only ones I have personally tested.

Received a Altitude helmet for Christmas from my wife. Head measured for a large, was really tight when I first put it on, especially in the cheek area. Called 509 they said if your head measures for a large then a large is what you need it will loosen up as the padding conforms to your head. And by God they were right after I wore it and sweated in it it loosened up, it is still a little tight in the cheek area though, but I believe it's suppose to be that way. Not uncomfortably tight though.

I have heard that in the deep jungles of Africa there are tribes that will do head reductions at no charge,:face-icon-small-hap

for us to get a better idea on how the helmet fits can you show us how tight a frogs azz is?

The altitude helmet was is not a typical U shape helmet it's supposed to curve around your head. I am on the border of an XL XXL in my old 509 helmet and Fly helmets. Tried a XXL altitude on and could hardly get it back off. But once on it felt great.
