Is it worth it?

Hey everyone, new to the fourm and have some questions regarding my 2007 Attak. I am also new to sledding in the west. I come from the east where I did 100% trail and relative flat (compared to the rocky mts) country riding on various machines from a bravo to an RX-1.

I bought a 2007 Attak this past January to use as a trail type sled but after spending some time talking to some local people (and their undying love for the mountians) I realized that I may want to bring my sled to the hills so here is the questions:

1. With the stock 136" 1.25 ripsaw track, how much of the powder could I handle?

2. I have seen an extension kit for the Attak that will allow me to put on a 144" 2" paddle track. Will those gains in track size and type get me up and around the mountians or just a mod gain in ability?

Thanks,

well i can tell you from my experience that if you want to get serious into mountain sledding to just buy a mountain specific sled. But the switch from a 136" 1.25" track to 144" by 2" will be a huge difference. Even just switching to a 136" 2" paddle track will be a huge diffrence. But it all depends on snow conditions and riding area. If you plan on really getting into the deep snow 144" will get you around but it will still be kinda short for keeping a heavy sled on the snow. just my 2 cents

I guess it kind of depends on how often you want to go. If you plan on mostly trail riding with one or two trips per year to the mountains I would probably just 144 it, but I have an Apex with a 162 and sometimes that isn't enough. Depends a lot on the conditions when you're up there. That's my opinion anyway.

The attak is one of the worst sleds in powder i have ever owned. The front end floats fine but man does it trench out. If your in snow over 3' deep leave it at home & get a rental or trade it on a mountain sled.

get a longer skid and put a 162x16 track on it, that will make it somthin that will get around in th pow.

I personally would never mod another short track to make a mtn sled. But back in the day, there wasn't much choice. If you want to do some good mtn riding, rent or get a different sled. You could get around on yours, stretched longer, but it still won't carve and boondock like a mtn sled. And that's what it's all about. :)

I figured as much. I have been watching a lot of video of mount. riding lately and there is no way my little piggy will handle revy / powerking / kakwa etc... esp with how much I weight (258 lbs!!).

I will stick to the trails unless somebody wants a brand new sled for the same price I paid for it lol lol

hey Kakwa still offers good riding even with that track. a 2'' track would be nice but dont turn down a trip it is worth seeing it

We've put 2 inch on an Attack and it works kind good,,,it's Apex, but it handles the deeper snow much better.

Take a bit of a hit in the pocket book if you have to. The Apex is what you need if you want to enjoy the mountains. And I agree with the comment about Kakwa. Don't pass up an oppurtunity to go it is an awesome area.
