Is it bad to change oil type?

I'm thinking about switching oil brands in my sled so I'm not paying quite so much $$$. Is it going to damage anything if I switch from Amsoil Interceptor to a non-synthetic? I've heard lots of peeps say you can't go back to non-synthetic after you've ran synthetic. Is that true? If so, why? I hear great things about that Castrol 2T snowmobile oil, and it's about 1/3 the price of Amsoil. If I switch, am I gonna ruin anything? My brother made the switch in his M8, even ran half a tank of Amsoil mixed with half a tank of 2T and it's gone all season on 2T now and not given him the least bit of trouble. Any input?

Run it down really low, dump in new oil, ride...........I have done it several times before to different sleds without problems. Just my humble opinion though does not mean it is the right thing to do. I am sure you will get varying opinions on here.

Never heard of that, most likely created by some schmuck in sales attempting to keep you buying the expensive stuff.

I run synthetic, I like it and there are good deals to be found if you look. Prices come down around show time and peeps sometimes try to unload their oil after they sell a sled if they are getting out of the sport for one reason or another.

IMO, oil is oil and it will do it's job. Some burn cleaner or smell different, some actually do lubricate better but you won't burn your sled down by running regular 2 stroke injection oil. Wal-Mart carries some stuff called Injex and I ran that for years in my 670 and my 800 REV with absolutely no issues whatsoever. And the price was well below what the dealers sell, which is about 38 bucks a gallon. OUCH!

The local auto parts store can order Castrol 2T oil for $66/case, including tax. So that's only $22/gallon out the door. At the rate I use oil, I'm thinking that's gonna save me a ton of money throughout the season. The snowmobile/atv shops can get it too, but it costs a bit more from them. So I'll probably empty as much of the Amsoil out of my oil res as I can and then fill up with 2T and go.

get the castrol.. start filling it in.. never hurt a thing.. i have mixed and matched anything I had laying around a few times.. think i had amsoil, blue marble and castrol all mixed in at one point.. never had an issue. over 3k miles on one of my sleds alone with the 2t and no issues. cheap, and it works.

I've had a concoction of all kinds of different oils running in my sled this year. I just dump in whatever I can get my hands on and shes runnin like a champ.....well you've seen her....she highmarked yer azz! ;) haha

Oils oil, your motor won't know the diff unless it runs out.
Been running Injex the last couple years because the price is good, have run Amsoil previously but got tired of $$$$$ per gallon, sled didn't run any better, although I think it is great oil.
Have mixed brands on occasion without any problems also.

paying to blog is silly

Only a schmuck would buy the expensive stuff, when another perfectly good option is available at 1/3 the price. Its kinda like paying for free advice on the internet???

Hey PP, whered you buy that? The Castrol 2T I get is hard to come by and I've only found it at Advanced Auto Parts here in the Denver area.
