Just wondering if I can still get up to american lakes for a sunday ride. Wouldn't look good to ride any mud in the state park. Anyone been recently?
Thanks
I was curious too so i called the visitor center 723-8366 and the hippie said the park closed to sledding on May 15? Kinda sucks since you can still probably get up the trail ok and tons of snow up high yet. There was 4' at the visitor center in mid may and the snotel showed a foot of fresh up at chambers lake during this last storm. Maybe the snowies or rabbit ears would be a better choice though. Maybe check the CSA website for more options. Not sure my topend would last or I might try to get in another ride up at the ear's. Buff pass/grizz creek road is closed down low but should be enough at Muddy creek to go north. The tower at Buff was still showing 80 some inches a few days ago.
Thanks for the info master. Never thought to call the visitors center. Its probably rideable but I didn't want to risk it so we went to the snowies instead. Windy but a good ride over all.
Yeah, do not risk ever riding Cam Pass area May 15th - Nov 15th. I just got a $50 ticket from the forest service guru's on May 31st for riding after May 15th even though I have never seen a sign there but have seen one at Kelley Lake. It was just my one sled with my girlfriend on it too and we were extremely cool and apologetic. What a bunch of *****es those Jackson County Rangers are. They gave me a parking ticket early in the season in the 7 Utes Lot for not having a seasonal parking pass even though I was the only one in the lot. Bought one the next week to find out that they don't even plow that lot in the winter. There are a couple young rangers that are cool, but the older head rangers are D-bags in that area...
Thanks for the good info. I drove from Ft collins to steamboat tuesday and there isnt much snow left. The valley floor was melted of pretty bad on the way up to the lakes. Probably to weeks past rideable. The ears looks like its over also.
I wonder if it's just the state forest land? If so, a guy could ride down to Jack park area on the backside on FS property. Course that trail is probably melted off too. Looking out that way, mummy range is all white again after todays storm and the Rawah looks incredible still. Can't ride em, but ya gotta love June snow storms
