Is baker open to ride anyone been up there

I called the FS Friday afternoon, the guy at the ranger station told me that it was going to be open and that they were in the process off taking down the signs as we spoke...

Drove 2 hours to get there and found it still closed... Grrr...

We got the same info. Took down the name of the ranger who called us back, which was great. The sign on the road was still up saying that it was closed though Sat morning. They need "at least 2-3 feet" of snow there to be able to get up to the mountain. It is snowing hard up above about 3500 feet.

Did you call them back yet Matte? What did they say? Did they forget to remove signs, or is it still closed?

i just called the FS and they said it is still closed to lack of snow and that they check snow depth yesterday....i wonder where they are measuring at cause the ski resort is showing a 60 inch base at the lowers lodge which is around 3200ft

Baker ski area depth is measured at 4200' (heather meadows) and 5000' (pan dome). The difference between snow depth at those elevations versus 3500-3700' depth is huge right now. Unloaded on minimal snow at 3700' yesterday on the North side of Baker and rode some gravel on the road. I'd say there was 8" max at the unload spot. We need some storms with low snow levels. Unfortunately heavy rain is forecasted tomorrow, then low snow levels after that. Maybe next weekend 'ish...

there is a big difference in snow depth from the ski resort and schreibers.. fact..

the south side gets blocked sometimes by the mountain and the northside slopes and hills on 542 and further north into CA get nuked... this is my logic.. its not always correct but seems logical.. :face-icon-small-con

Actually This State as a whole gets predominatly a south westerly flow which mean the highest totals can end up on the s westerly slopes. Tthat being said Mt Baker makes her own rules as far as weather goes! she can be a big Bi**h sometimes!

Still closed. Heavy snowfall yesterday right where we need it. The sign on Baker Lake road said closed. There were no other signs anywhere on the road. We drove up in our trucks quite a ways and didn't see any signs at all. Do they normally put closed or open signs up the trail or at the meadow or the public restrooms?

Also, we saw a Border Patrol jeep up there too. What are they looking for? I can't imagine a worse route to smuggle anything into the US.

the sign at the start of the gravel road is where the closed to snowmobiles sign is usually. never anything at the bathrooms or the meadows. wont be long now. just need more snow and it would be helpful to have snow level around 2k....

high freezing levels and heavy rain tomorrow is going to put some hurt on the snow where we need it to open. Its pretty good up high but the mid elevation creeks are still gushing and blown out also. Need a real good dump at low freezing levels to get thinks rockin. And border patrol just needs to go waste gas driving around doing nothing if you have the funds to waste better do it.

And those of you who went up there and already got rejected once better make dam sure to hit that chit next time or she will never let you in....
