Iridium Plug/PERC Question

Got some new NGK BPR9EIX iridiums based on good feedback read on this site-installed them today and went for about 50 mile ride (also added about 12ozs of VES oil to gas tank because watching oil consumption after pump adjustment). Upon initial electric start the motor fired up then died...then did the same thing again....then finally started but idled high (about 1900-2000) before coming back down to the usual 1700rpms after a minute or two. Right away really smoky and could smell polaris oil. Once warmed up to 115F took off and seemed to run great/throttle response seemed crisper? Came back to the house after a couple hours-so sled definitely warmed up-pressed PERC button and motor shut off and didn't turn back on (thought I heard little backfire). Started again and did the same thing. The third time it finally came back on in reverse and worked fine. Sled has 1900 miles on original belt I think and belt deflection ok. Any ideas? Didn't do this before when I ran Champion RN57YCC's but then again I wasn't running premix either. Help!

I used to have that problem with my 900. Switch plugs to a BPR9ES! It a more durable plug and is less prone to fouling.

Put the Champions back in and see if the problem goes away. I doubt it's plug related though.

Mine runs fine with the iridium plugs in but I dont have the oil in the gas it might have something to do with that. it does run a little higher at idle though!

The Iridium plugs are the way to go. Carls, SLP both highly recommend them.

Iridium plugs were designed for Racing. They reduce the chance of a miss fire in high compression, and turbo motors. They can be used in any application as long as you get the right plug. The down side, In Racing, plugs are changed out every race. The iridium electrode burns away much faster than conventional plugs. If you want to run Iridium plugs, check your gap at 10 hour intervals on the first set. When the gap increases .003- .005"note your miles, the plugs should be replaced. You can usually adjust the gap down one time, and get away with it. This will allow you to determine your plug replacement intervals for Iridium plugs. Hope this helps.

call me stupid, but i've tried to run the iridium plugs and i couldnt tell a damn bit of difference other than they fouled out quicker than the champion plugs and that i could buy 4 champion plugs for the price of one iridium plug. i personally dont feel these plugs make a big enough difference to pay the same price for them yet alone 4 times as much

Quick Update......Put the champions back in and PERC works good now/no stalling out....So I guess I'll be sticking with the stock plugs....Anyone want a good deal on some BPR9EIX's????? :)

Thanks for the feedback!

Been using bpr9eix for one full season and only foul out just one not a pair just one..gottem in 08 600 and 09 600..can foul out champs no problem. Anyone try the bpr9ecs, doo use those. Not a fan of champions, will use them as a last resort thou.

Was using iridium br9eix on my turbo dragon and it worked fine from day one.
Try gapping them, I had to gap them between 0,020-0,025
