IQ chassis w/800 CFI - stress cracks near frt. motor mounts?

Looking to see if anyone has or has had their motor out of the chassis and has found stress cracks in the areas near the front motor mount points? I found a couple cracks when I serviced the motor a year ago and welded everything back up. Checked again this spring and they're back - the welds held, but new cracks nearby. I'm not overly concerned, because if the cracks came back that quickly, similar cracks were probably present for a full season before I discovered them the first time. Still, I'm curious what others have seen (even better if you have pics) and wondering if this is common to the chassis. Thanks!

Mine had a couple cracks an inch or so long that I had welded back up this spring, I haven't checked to see if they are back yet but I would assume without some kind of reinforcement it will crack again.

I've had a few of the IQ chassis (4) down to the bulkhead and noticed small cracks as well on all 4 sleds, always in/near the same spot, PTO side motor mount and MAG motor mount where the 2 sheets of aluminum are riveted/welded together. The chassis I was working on were 06, 09 and 10? and mileage varied between 1150-5000+.

The 2 aluminum welders I brought it to said the cracks occured because Polaris welds the bulkheads with an automated MIG welder and welds very hot/fast and then does not finish the welds properly.

I had the welds ground down, drilled the end of the crack and then TIG welded and had them finish the welds properly, the cracks have not come back on any of the sleds.

I'd agree with that assessment based on what I saw in my own chassis - the original cracks appeared to originate in the weld craters (improperly filled stopping point of the weld) in the area you described. Since my chassis is an '08, I wondered if this was a first-year thing or if the same situation was typical for all the IQ chassis sleds.

Seen the cracks in my '07 and '08 but never worried me a bit. Left them be and 14k miles later the chassis is still holding up.

Correct that the chassis was available previously, but '08 was the first year for 800s....

You guys have any pictures you could post? i've worked on quite a few of these and haven't seen any. Maybe these sleds are being ridden by grandpa's.

09 Bulk head cracks near motor mounts

Hi guys,
I have found the same cracks in my 09 D8 near both front motor mounts. I am going to be putting the motor back in soon and am wondering if it is worth trying to get them welded asap. Has anyone had any major problems caused by these cracks? Would installing one of SLPs mag side engine push arms help? If any one was successfull in stopping or repairing the cracks and have any input I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for any help or advice on this topic?
