ipod?

looking to buy my 1st mp3 player for sleddin.

which is the best for sound quality, and battery life? I dont need the video screen, just want like 500 songs and as small as possible w/out sacrificing sound quality. i realize the quality starts w/ a good pair of head phones, but the player also needs a good chipset/dsp.

so whatta think? where to buy music also?

thnx
ray

I also use Ipods. I think they are the most versitile. Average head phones will work fine. I didn't spend alot on head phones because I tend to sweat and ruin them. Just my .02

I have a i pod nano. buy a little case for it throw it in your pocket. battery last quite a while. just use the headphones that come with it. Although, i broke mine... I have a 8gb, has alot of room probably only needed a 4

i have an older style 2nd gen nano and its amazing i dont like the new ones there not small at all.... i only have the 4 gig, and ive got almost 600 songs on it with a gig left

I have a Sony NW-S705F 2gb noise cancelling mp3 player. I got it new off woot.com about a year ago now. I think it's been discontinued and replaced with a newer one. I have owned one iPod.

Benefits of the Sony over the iPod:
1. Noise cancelling. Running, biking, in an airliner, wherever. Very high quality noise cancellation that allows one to be with their own thoughts. It's the reason I bought it, and it's been worth every single penny.
2. Size. It's smaller and carries nicer than any of the iPods.

Drawbacks of the Sony over the iPod:
1. Proprietary software to load music onto it. It's a horrible program, but it's used so infrequently that it doesn't end up being an issue.
2. Aftermarket stuff just isn't available like it is for the iPod stuff. It'll input into your car stereo via a headphone jack the same way though.

All in all, for the $70 (woot is great) I spent on a $200+ mp3 player, I've very happy. A charge lasts a week when I use it about an hour/day. I use it strictly for music when working out though, really no other time.

I know a guy who clips his little tiny ipod to his goggle strap. He's got it set up pretty good.

It's the little tiny one that's about an inch and half long and wide.

good input

thanks guys, i knew you'd have the info

the 1gb shuffle, seems small, cheap( if lost) and hold est. 250 songs

it goes for $45 retail, and around 35 on ebay.

Now i just need to find a way to buy the songs for less than a buck each, ehh!

Limewire.com, free music. i got the 80 gb ipod classic. A little big but holds tons of songs and pics and videos

Yea, i'd go with the iPod Shuffle. Cheap, somewhat disposable, and small.

Can't say about battery life though, never had one. For the price, get two... one for morning, one for afternoon. :P

As far as music goes, bittorrent's my primary source anymore. College networks are the best place though.

The first ipod shuffle

I just bought a Zune and so far it is great! I definitly am going to check out the ToBe helmet at the show this year though as keeping the earbuds in place was a pain

a little tip for you with your new ipod...the batterys are not changeable, so always run it all the way out of juice. If you get in the habit of stopping it with half battery or so it will eventually lose a serious amount of battery life....

^^ That's more true with NiCd/NiMH than Li-Ion/Li-Poly.

Lithium batteries work best running to 50%, 100%, 50%, 100%, then an occasional (I usually go once a month or so) 100%, 0%, 100%. Key is to keep the electrons in the battery moving.

if you're storing a Li battery for more than two or three months, condition it (100-0-100) then bring it down to about 75% before putting it away. When you go to use it again, recondition it and you should be good to go.

I have a 2nd-gen iPod with its original battery that I picked up april of '03 that'll still go 6-8hrs on one good full charge. A little battery maintenence can go a long way with rechargeables.

yea, my first one i would use for like an hour, then shut off, then another hour...so on, the battery went to nothing after a while, like im talking 20 minutes:eek:

Now i always run it from 100 percent to nothing and shes been going strong for over a year and i use it almost every day:D

Just picked up a 4gig Nano...and have gone a little goofy the last day or so getting it set up...pulling all my CDs out of the case...and then there's Itunes...WOW. That's too easy.

Just click and buy. LOL

I picked up a used Ipod Classic on Craigslist for $120 80 GB

I downloaded alot of TV stuff so I can plug it into the TV at the cabin since we have no reception up there. Got about 40 GB of TV shows and movies on it and about 4 GB of music.......

Why buy new, when slightly used will do.......
