Ipod earphones staying in ears in helmet

i tried riding with my ipod and couldn't hear a freakin thing! what earbuds are best at eliminating outside sound?

Not sure what the other iPods are like but my iPod Nano is frickin' loud when cranked up all the way. Shouldn't be any problems hearing when when you're using a stock silencer or a fairly quiet system like SLP. I haven't tried mine out on the sled but at full volume it's WAY too loud when mowing the lawn(on a riding lawn mower).

Fortunately my wife is an Audiologist so I was able to "demo" a pair of the custom molded ear buds for the ipod, I can tell you that they retail between $300-$400, I love them because my ears don't hurt from cramming the ear buds in the helmet. I also found they are great for motorcycling, they block the wind noise and allow you to just hear the music. They have great sound quality. You can check out Starkey's website or Westone

I checked out those 'Skull-Candys' on ebay and they look like they are going to do the trick. $20 shipped to my door.

I hate having to put my helmet on carefully with the regular ipod earbuds as they will not stay in, or they come loose in my helmet just as i hit the throttle and I end up holding up my group or im rushed to get my earbuds in properly.
Also the stock ipod earbuds hurt my ears at after about 10am.

Cant wait to get the skull-candys. Thanks guys !

I use the original IPOD ear buds with a head sock on. Holds them in fine and seems to eliminate outside noise.

the $20 dollar sony ones at wally world that have the littleplastic loop that goes around the back of your ear like glasses, they stay in very good and are still just an earbud with a loop on em. and the head sock is really helpful in keeping the phones in.

personally i cant ride with em tho, not being able to hear things makes it really hard for me to ride, i like the sounds of riding. and sleds with loud cans make way to much noise to try and overcome IMO

those tobe helmets are ugly as all hell, but a great idea. i use just the stock ipod ones with my clava and they stay in okay, but the ipod is loud enough so i can hear it even if they do fall out and when they do, they don't go far from my ear. when i used to ski, i took an old pair of the over the ear style phones and hacked riped them apart untill all i had was the wire and speakers, taped them inside my helmet and it worked great.

which style of the skull candys do you guys have? just the bud ones or the ones that loop over your ear?

I use a brand called Shure, Model #SE210. They have a triple flange ear plug with a hole in the middle. They act like ear plugs. I also use their Push to Hear attachment. Check out their website shure.com

Good thread
Tried the customs, in helmet speakers, various brads and attatching methods.
Still prefer the ear buds made of rubber foam held in place with duct tape and an inline amplifier. My preference is to still hear what goes on around me, yet have tunes in the background
