Internet TV?

Hey, question for you all....

Fiancee's parents live in a small town and have been paying a ton of money for a chitty service cable connection. They just got high-speed internet out at their place and are looking to upgrade their tv now, but they are limited.

He sent me a link to a spam email he got that was extremely fishy that I deleted, but the basis for it I have been wondering on. Is there a site where you can pay a monthly service fee or a one time fee that will let you connect to channels and watch the streaming on your PC? I've seen the ones where you can go find the TV shows, but are there any where you tap in to each channel live?

Thanks a ton!

pretty sure there's no television-via-broadband that behaves like television... most consumer data providers (qwest, comcast, etc) have deals with satellite or cable providers to "bundle" their services together.

Could look into that, might be cheaper to "bundle" the two with their internet provider (if offered). Satellite TV goes pretty much everywhere since there's no local datacenters to support.

there was a site that I went to last year ..dang it if I can't remember it ....started with a "V"

Ya I'm with ya Mule, it was a broken link and when I searched the company it was in a bunch of chinese japanese stuff, figured scam or not worth the learning a new language haha.

I think they would be happier with a bundle package through Qwest here, but they heard this system was a one time fee of either $30 for basic or $50 for full service, and for the price they figured at least try it for whatever it is....

Anyone find anything lemme know, figured its a shot in the dark but could be some good points from the inlaws.....

Qwest's who I have internet through... they're the best IMO. Don't care what you do with the bandwidth; you pay for it, you do what you want with it as long as it's not FBI-level illegal.

I run servers on mine, have -tons- of traffic both up and down, they know it, and couldn't care less. Comcast, on the other hand, are bandwidth nazis.

Qwest "bundles" with Dish Network iirc... you get their DSL internet with Dish's satellite TV, and pay one bill for the two. They're also in bed with Verizon, if you want wireless tacked onto that bill as well.

Haha, thanks for the visual Mule.

Ya, same setup here for cable and dish network, all the companies here have bundle deals, midco comm. is what I ahve now and they don't care either about your usage. They bundl their cable package, home phone, internet all in one bill too, and sometimes for like 99 a month when ya sign up. Gonna keep bouncing around between providers I think to lock in at that one year deal, none of them have long term contracts you ahve to sign.
