intermittent bog

I'm excited for the recent powder and took my sled out today for a quick rip. The powder is 2+ feet deep and pretty light. After about 10 miles of riding, I started getting a little bog when on the gas until it began to fall on its face. I thought maybe my vents were all plugged up and she was having trouble breathing. I stopped, cleaned them all off and it went good for a couple minutes until all of a sudden it was worse than before. The vents were still pretty clean so I knew this wasn't the issue. I opened the hood and found a spark plugs wire loose on the plug. My thought was cool, theres my problem. I tightened it all up but it didn't change anything. I then changed plugs to the only set I had, another set of used plugs but in decent condition. didn't change a thing. Im not a plug expert but didn't see anything glaringly obvious with the plugs. I was able to limp home. sometimes bog was bad but most time while in tracks it was either barely there or not at all. If I was in the powder ripping, it showed up much quicker and bogged much worse.

I will start by changing plugs in the AM but am trying to find source of bog and things to look for. I removed clutch cover and primary is still intact. Anything else to look for that might cause a bog like this?

sled has about 1700 miles on the motor with SLP pipe and can, clutching but nothing too crazy

It was just a thought since the bog gets worse when the motor is under heavy load. If your clutches cant shift all the way through they can and will bog down the motor.

Stock can?

As I put an HPS can on my 17 axys and would only bog on deep pow days. Spoke to hps and they said I needed to either drop or ad weight to my clutch. Don't remember which one as got rid of the can as I was only looking for a lighter can with a littler better sound than stock. Would have never bought the can to begin with if I knew I had to adjust clutch weights.

I would check the relays, you can get 5 packs waterproof ones on amazon for like $9. Two above y pipe one above primary in Velcro pouch. I would also look at the white four wire stator plug. My wife’s 16 axys had a really sporadic bog I thought was a coil acting up but the issue got worse on hers. Long story short, her stator plug was melted, replaced with weatherpack, rode today and it hasn’t bogged yet.

Just replaced the stator plug on my 16. The connectors where corroded and the plastic was melted.

So it ended up being my belt.... I changed it and everything is running flawlessly. Just rode 4 days of some awesome riding. Why would a worn belt add up to a sputter/ bog/ fall on its face?

Back to my first and 2nd post. If things are not working properly in your clutches- bad belt, springs, weights, rollers, helix, motor mounts, ect all effects the load on the motor. So your belt being wore changed the load on your motor and the way your clutching works.

Overev sometimes.
Slip and build heat at other times.

In the past when belt replacement made a big difference for me it was an indicator of worn primary clutch buttons, rollers and bushings.
