Yeah, there has been more than a few times I've been out scouting around for a new creek to fish or whatnot and come up to a "PRIVATE PROPERTY" sign or the like where it isn't supposed to be. I buy a new Wyoming Gazette every year that has a map of where all the private, state, and federal land is. Take a GPS, verify it, and there you go ... To my knowledge that's the only way to realistically be able to prove you aren't on somone elses' land.
so the new gazettes are actually updated every year? IIRC they used to just use the info from the feds that was updated every 5 years or so.
There is some land out around Hanna that my roomate and I are desperate to find out if it is actually private or not because signs popped up this fall, but all the important info was duct taped over and it jus said "NO TRESPASSING, OWNED BY XXXXXXXXXX"
Now, on the land that "XXXXXXXXXX" actually owns, there is a lot more info below that such as "Public travel approved on established roads unless otherwise posted, etc etc"
If the gazettes are actually updated every year, I'll be buying one ASAP and heading out with the GPS so if game and fish try to nail us for hunting on private we can prove it.
Just like here around Laramie, there used to be signs up on a fence that said "Public Access Area for Sheep Mountain." Now said signs have been torn down. I think its because the landowners that have the easment on their place don't want the public walking through there.
Or how about in western Wyo close to Fort Bridger, there is this sweet section of land that is perfect for elk and deer hunting. But, there is this c*cksucking jackhole that owns a 100 yard strip all the way around said section and won't allow any access. Now, if you can get across his land without being found out, you can hunt that section. But, you can't get the game back across his section without getting in deep sh!t with many different people.
Or the guy that bought the three sections south of Evanston and put up locked gates on county roads. We got the Sheriffs involved with that one and said landowner was told he cannot impede access to county roads.
I -really- hate jackhole landowners.
