Intercooler

You simply could... But it defeats the entire purpose. Your engine coolant would be keeping your intercooler heated. While a separate system is only begin heated by the compressed air in the charge tube. There wouldn't be much of an cooling advantage to be pumping hot coolant through an exchanger... It would be just heat soaked and not beneficial.

Ok that makes sense, I was just thinking if your coolant temps are running 165 and charge temps without an intercooler are running 200 +, wouldnt there be some benefit? Or is that just not enough temp change?

Sorry for all the questions.

they would acceptably at wot... but you gotta think, now instead of being cool at idle from cool air being pump through your core, now your heating it up making your low/off boost conditions setup with an air heater..

maybe if you had some big coolers and you ran it on the return part of your loop it might be worth it, but then again, you would have to see what the temps were to justify something like that.

I think that is what Twisted is doing. It is consistent too, so it makes tuning a bit easier.

Ok makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

someone should throw a temp gauge in the coolant line comin out of the coolers to see what kinda temps your running.. if your getting something decently cool, might be worth it, not gonna be as good as a dedicated coolant system, but simple has some gains as well.. and beats no ic if some of you guys are hitting 200+ charge temps..

Id be up for that, the problem is my sled is torn apart for while im doing some mods. By the time im finished the snow will be gone, so it would have to be temps at idle...

just talking with a few of my poo buddies today and they are saying playing in decent snow the temps stay at 110-120 in the top of the head.. thats gonna be your hottest water IMO, so your water returning from the giant coolers should be 75 or less.. obviously just a guess and specuation. but that would more then do the trick to cool down 200+!!! and im betting a turbo system without a cold air intake your charge temps even low speed cruising are up there close to the cooler water temps.

Between the hot and cold side there is 6-8 degrees in temp drop, meaning even on the cold side your looking at 105 or better coolant temps.

Looks like this guy made it work on his M8, using this cooler and a closed cooling circuit:

I guess it will be a tight fit on the dragons, guessing steering stem will have to be angled and welded. Changing out the whole charge tube with this cooler and keeping the stock airbox, should be really easy to just plug it into the original cooling system to get references as far as charge temps before/after.

Anyone got some ideas or input?
