Is there a way to hook a small 12v battery to the sled so the display wont shut off when sled is off? Searching for different areas on the topo needs to be done without all the vibration. I would want to connect the battery where a stock battery would go to keep it fully charged.

You have to think that Polaris is coming out with some type of system for those that want the IDD but did not want the E-Start.
As soon as something is available I will be on board.
I have no issue with putting on a charger as needed to maintain a dedicated IDD battery.

I plan to do this when I have time. I bought a small sealed 12 volt battery, just haven't had time to research the wiring yet. May just be worth buying the factory harness for electric start.

i think someone mentioned you can jump the gauge if you have the electric start harness....so basically if you slap a battery in there and have the electric start wiring that plugs into the harness your gauge is good to go. tagging this thread because thats exactly what i want to do.

On the old display, You could power it by some of the plugs under the hood, I just do not remember witch plug it was. I would like to set it up, and update it without having to start my engine to. So a small battery may fit the bill, but even more, if there is a easy way to just enable the IDD in the garage in by plugging in a power source to it, that would help a lot. Need to learn that thing before riding :face-icon-small-coo Anyone with any Idea on it??

Above the clutch cover there is a plug labeled gauge that will power it up from a battery, just make sure to get polarity correct.
What I am looking for is tire in the the factory harness so it doesn't reboot in reverse, etc.
I'm sure it's simple I just haven't had time to dig in to it yet.

Thanks, that would help to start with

When You have dig into it, Please share it, It just seams like we need to get a few parts from the ES model to fix that. Part number 2413091 HARNESS, ELECTRIC START [ES MODELS] was about 100 US$, then about 70 $ more for the batterybox + cables. So maybe 200 $ should do it + battery??? I will try to do the same :face-icon-small-hap

That would definitely work, but it's way overkill to plug a battery that size in just for the gauge. I bought I small thing, roughly 2"by 4" if that (it's home in the shop or I would measure for sure) just for the gauge.
Plus we don't need the complete harness, just the plug that ties in.
I will try and the a look at an e-start this weekend if I have time.

yes please post back when someone figures it out. i want to do the same thing is keep power to display so it doesn't power down on reverse...and for doing updates. I had to idle the sled forever to get updated last week and i know its running hot to do so.

To do the updates I took one of the connectors off of a computer power supply I had laying around and connected out to a jumper battery I have. It's not perfect but it worked.
I think the sled is a 3 way Molex and the power supply is 4 but it worked.

I can't stress enough to be careful if you do this! It would be real easy to fry a 7 hundred dollar gauge.

thats exactly why i'm waiting for someone to do pictures and explanation for us less inclined. lol

I installed the IDD on my 2015 RMK without elec. start and with a small 12v battery I bot at the KTM motorcycle shop. I also bot a small plastic battery box and cut it in half and pop riveted the box to the inside of the firewall or where your right knee pad goes. The knee pad covers the pop rivets up. I had to buy a new wiring harness for the 2015 to complete the IDD install and to hook up to the battery. I still have that wiring harness P/N 2412976 and will sell it reasonable to anyone who needs one. It worked on my 2015 and probably will fit on a 2012 to 2015 RMK. (not on a AXYS) It does the complete IDD setup down to the battery and the system charges the battery. $50.00 gets it.
Now, I traded for an AXYS and ordered it without elec start ( who wants elec. start on a mt. sled except Yahmaha riders) I kept my IDD and figured it would fit right into the AXYS ----Sorry it required a NEW TOP wiring harness and a new lower wiring harness that each cost about $100.00. Again the IDD works fine and the battery charges off the sled's power. That's aggravating enough but if I had ordered the FREE electric start kit on my Snow Check AXYS the two harnesses would have come free. You'd think that Polaris would love to sell IDD's as an add on. They certainly charge enough for them. BUT the non elec. start wiring harness is not made to work with one and certainly will not charge the battery without the lower harness that hooks to the battery on the elec. start package. Another poorly thought through situation is the inability to order the battery box or the bracket that holds the battery box for the AXYS separately thru parts. You have to order an entire Elec. Start Kit to get that yet they'll sell the harnesses separate. Makes me wonder who makes these decisions and is he or she in the game!!!!!

To temporarily power the gauge for updates (so you don't have to run the sled forever), above the clutch cover is this 3 way connector with 2 wires, red w/black is positive and brown is ground.
I just cut this connector off a bad computer power supply I had laying around and used it and my battery jumper box to power up the gauge.
Even though it's a 4 way it worked fine, just be careful.
Always a good idea to use an in line fuse, blah blah blah.

thank you idahosledder. this is exactly what i was looking for. yes ihave a bunch of molex connectors left over from scavenged pc's i have. thats gonna be my next project is get this working. :face-icon-small-hap

I had my dealer install a lightweight battery in my 16 Axys, works great. Not exactly sure how they did it, but it recharges the battery too. No more long delays between reverse and forward, it's very nice!

That's exactly my goal.
I'm curious if your dealer installed the entire electric start harness or just tied in somewhere.
Any way you could trace the harness from the battery and snap a picture?

yeah see thats why i posted earlier in this thread about the lower harness. i believe axys harness + electric start harness = IDD plug and play/charge/power
