Insurance claim, take off goodies first?

My XP took a hit to the left side this weekend. I think she might be toast. A arms, shock, motor is tweaked out of alignment and the tunnel in the left footwell has a bulge. The left panel is way out of alignment. I'm going to pull it out of the trailer tonight and give it a good once over.

Should I take off my aftermarket goodies (axle kit, risers, rack, can, etc) before they look at it? I don't want those things to go with the sled in case it's a total. I can put it back to stock with the original parts. I guess the vent kit has to stay on though...no way to put that back to stock.

Some insurance companies give $1000 accessories as well. If you have receipts take off EVERYTHING and show them the receipts for it. They will give you the money but you still have the parts?

Wait is that illegal (insurance fraud)?

Exactly...take them off...the insurance company will not give you anymore for them. If it is a total, I would ask what would be the $$ on the buy back option. Sometimes you can get a smoking deal and use it for parts on your new sled, parts to sell, or sell the whole sled to someone that wants to rebuild it.

Thanks again guys.

I just pulled her out and put her on level ground. Left ski is 3-4" back, bulge in left footwell tunnel and left side of rear bumper is NOTICEABLY higher than right side. Ouch.

Friend totaled his sled, got full book for it, bought it back and doubled his money on the buy back on the used parts from it. Dino

FYI when i did my claim on my xp the insurence guy told me on the phone "if the tunnel is bent it will be a compleat loss" but mine wasent bent so i got it fixed. i kinda wish it would have been totaled because that turbo m8 is lookin really good right now.

I got the word back from the insurance today. She's totaled.

I did take off all the goodies. I was surprised that they got a salvage bid so high ($2600). Chaincase cracked, tunnel bent, left side suspension all bent, front subframe bent and motor was shifted on its mounts.

I did come out better than what I paid for her though. At least that was some good news to come out of it.

When I totalled mine they gave me some credit for the aftermarket parts. I came out pretty good.

When you total a sled and file a claim, what does that do to your insurance? Big increase? Get Dropped? Just wondering I've never had to file a claim and hope I don't have to anytime soon. How much damage makes it worth filing a claim?

I have USAA and they're pretty good. First insurance claim ever and from what I know, they won't drop me. I have auto, sled and home insurance through them.

I knew my claim would be big. I have a $200/$100 deductible so it was worth it for me. I knew the tunnel and front were screwed and it would be several $k's to fix it. I haven't filed any small claims before so I can't help ya too much with that BigHoe.
