Installing a shift assist should i change stock spring??

Two shift assists? Thats un-needed, if you free up the one end, the spring will move as needed to work properly. Anymore then that and your just jacking up the spring preload/hight.

Good to see you active again DonoBBD, your clutching knowledge is a real asset to the Cat boys.

We were talking about the shims in the primary from HPE.

a nylon washer in the face cup will accomplish the task....i've used them for several years before switching to delrin material, which seems longer lived...you only need one....if one end of the spring has a surface to unload the binding action, it's not needed on the other end...works good, you'll have a noticably smoother drive clutch...another bonus, broken primary springs are a thing of the past....:)
