Input on 700 RMK's

Looking to purchase a 700 RMK and need some help on finding out the best year to look for? I am looking at either a 2007 or 2008, but may go 2009's if I can find a sweet deal. Any input as to what would be the best year to purchase would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!

2008 700 Dragon 163

This was the funnest sled I've ever owned, went everywhere, gas, oil, ride. The only negative was the WE shocks. I left it completely stock.

09 is better then 08 because of the new front end. 08 is better then 07 because of the different spindles. But you can put all of those things on anyone of them. IMO they are all good I went from a 2000 700 RMK to an 08 700 RMK and i love the 08. I don't know what you are coming from but you will not be disappointed with anyone of those years.

Thanks to everyone for the input on the 700 RMK. I am coming from a 2005 RMK 800 that worked well for me. I made the mistake of riding my friends 2008 RMK 700 and really liked how it felt and handled. As far as engine wise are all 2007-2010 700's just as good as each other or is there a better year to look for?

I think most are fuel injected which most will tell you is better.

Engine is pretty nice for any year 2007+ ... just boils down chassis.

They are pretty much the same. My '07 has double ring pistons, later years they went to single ring like the 800's. I'm not sure if that was a good a thing or not?

I would look for the sled in the best condition and also pricing, any of them are a huge upgrade from your '05 edge chassis. All of them are dependable, the older sleds (07/08) have a wider belly pan, the newer (09/10) have a narrower pan. Go for the best condition/maintained sled!

I have a 2008 700 (non dragon). This is my 3rd season riding it, has been an awesome sled so far, no complaints. I bought it from the original owner with 500 miles on it. Mine was bone stock (except a muff pot), if you can find one with a SLP can, ice scratchers, storage bags, etc that would probably save you some $$$ down the road. Good luck!

All excellent information that everyone has shared and thank you! I know there are a lot of variables and conditions when it comes down to price for a 700 RMK. Does anyone have any suggestions on price range for what to expect to pay for a decent used one?

Prices very widely based on locality, look at what they are selling for in your area (selling for, not for sale at).

I bought an 08 new in 08. I really liked the sled. Then I bought an 09 and think it handles much better than the 08. Better rails and better front end. I have left the motor stock and spent my time & money on upgrading the rear suspension. It is a fun sled to ride. If you can find an affordable 09 in good shape, that would get my vote.

I found a 2008 700 Dragon over in Wisconsin and I think it is a pretty good deal. I pretty much bought it for $3,900 over the web but will look at it in person tomorrow. It has a couple of chips on the hood but it looks really clean in the photos. According to the guy he is the second owner of the sled and it has less than 1,800 miles it. He replaced the pistons at @800 miles due to the intake boots cracking or delaminating and has had no problems with it since then. The piston that were put back in are the Polaris two ring versions. Please let me know your thoughts on the 2008 Dragon 700. THANKS!

That sounds like a sweet deal if it's clean! I just bought an 08 dragon 700 here in Utah for $4,999... pretty top dollar I'd say that's the most they go for around here, but it only has 840 miles and is mint. I've been eying them online for months now and they're usually listed for $4,500-$5,500ish, so they probably sell for $4k-$5k.

I've only ridden a dragon once a year ago, tried my buddies out. I've wanted one ever since... can't wait for the weekend!

Sweet and thanks for your thoughts! I have been looking around for a few months and prices are starting to level off after the last part of December and eveyone got their fix once the snow started falling. I think it is a pretty good deal and the guy seems really nice and honest over the phone. We will see tomorrow once I see it in person but I think I cannot go too wrong at that price.

I bought an 08 700 at the end of last season. $4900 (Colorado), only had 600 miles on it, bone stock except an SLP can. I replaced the front end with the upgrade from Polaris to make it an 09-10 front end (definitely do this upgrade because it changes the sled a lot and gives you a real bumper - $500). I did some minor maintenance as well (lube, chaincase oil, cleaned power valves, replaced exhaust gaskets, track tension, etc.). Sled has run great so far this season. It's my first sled, and I couldn't be happier with it. Except the windshield is pretty weak and the flares broke off instantly, so I had to cut it down because it just gets in the way when I have to roll it out of a trench. :face-icon-small-ton

When / If you do the front end upgrade on an 08, get a pneumatic air rivet gun ($50 at Harbor Freight). Makes the job 100% easier.

Also, mine pulls 8250 rpm at ~9500' (or at least that what the dash gauge tells me).
