indy trail tuning help

i have a 97 indy trail (488 FAN) that has problems starting when cold. 2-3 pulls with the choke on, wont start. pull plugs (gas soaked) and wipe them off. turn moter over 3-4 times with plugs out and key off, reinstall plugs. turn moter over 4-5 pulls with the choke off and throttle open about 3/4 and fires up. rev a few times to clean it out and its fine the rest of the day, although it does have a light bog in the bottom 1/3 of the throttle. air mixture screws are like 5 turns out, plugs are a light chocolate brown. thanks for helping

sounds like maybe you have too big of pilot jets ....or your clip on your needles may need to be looked at...I have recently had trouble with my engine flodding while sitting with the fuel valve open...probably not related but never know... I don't know any jetting #'s off hand I always gotta look in the book...

Seems to be a common problem....

Third time that this motor has come up with the exact same issue this year. Someone noted that if the ACCS goes bad, it goes to default rich mode...just a thought. Not sure if the trail was an RMK or not. If not, then no ACCS and I am not sure what the deal is. The only way I solved the problem on my Trail RMK several years ago was to sell the thing. Not really great advice, but it seems to be a fairly common problem. Good luck!

indy trail, so no accs

mixture screws that far out makes me think too fat in the pilots..usually 1-1/2 turns out or tweaked a hair more or less..
