just curious what some of you guys might have ran into..with the least form par winter and a way warmer one...

two weeks ago it was raining while riding, got higher in elevation. the sled loaded up and again last week 50 deg it was loading up again...

so I pulled carbs down have a 35 pilot 1.5 on air screws and a 130 main The elevation I run is 4500 to 6200 ft

I am going to leave pilot and drop main to 120 and move needle up to middle or second to last....it is sitting at second from top right now...

I hope to remove the bog from idle to 1/4 throttle by doing it.. and make it snappier.. THOUGHTS?

as Merlin and VB when you put the long tracks on as I might have asked before but did you reclutch at all and if so what did you guys come up with?

I don't have record of my needle settings. I might check that out when ever the snow flies and I get the itch to put the battery back in it. Since it uses the same battery as my quad, they share.

I usually use the Lite at 4000-5500' since our club grooms the area it is easy for the kids to get out from the snow park then play.

I'm showing the VM30 Mikuni carb, BR8ES plugs, 125 Hex jet, 35 Pilot, 1.5 turns on the idle speed and the factory 4100 engagement rpm. I also run a 10 bushed weight, gold spring, 36.5 B2 helix with a red spring.

When I long tracked, it got geared down to 16:39 with a 64 chain. I believe I may have moved the secondary spring to the next hole giving a tad more pressure but that is all the changes I made when I went to the 136". I don't remember how snappy it was, but it had no bog and tractor'd with me and the daughter on it through knee deep powder (300+# of riders). I was impressed with that part of it.

I dropped main to 125 last night left needles in same spot..going to McCall this week end so I will see what happens...... its suppose to be around 50 deg again ..... THANKS VB for your info!

Sorry for the slow response SD,

I switched the factory mains(145) to either 130s or 125s when I took it to the mountains last spring. Unfortunately, I can't find where I documented the exact jets I installed, damn! LOL Other than the jets, I'm running the same factory calibrations as you & VB.

Running it a couple of weeks ago between 3000' to 6000' & 25F to 40F, it still felt a little fat. I think jetting down to 120s & raising the clip 1 notch & dropping needles wouldn't hurt a bit. Probably want to take a peek at the plugs a few times though to be safe.

Running the 7 tooth drivers & 16:39 gearing, the clutching seemed OK. I could see the factory final drive ratio(assuming 9 tooth drivers) loading the engine pretty good with a 136" deep lug track. Cranking the secondary spring up like VB suggested should help however if you are already in B2 like we are you'll only have one more hole to go before the spring is maxed(B1).

I've never ridden another machine with this particular 340 F/C engine so I've got nothing to compare to but I think there's only going to be so much bottom end performance we can expect from a small cc, piston port engine. If we could only have a reed valve, exhaust valve, EFI equipped fan cooled engine for these machines we'd be set!

Good luck & have fun on your trip!
