Indy Dan Motor - Oil adjectment question.

I had my 2009 800 dragon motor rebuild with the long rod mod by Indy Dan. I am just putting the motor back in the sled (see my bare chassis build thread )

Indy Dan wants the oil usage to be a pint per 10 gallons. He suggests increasing the oil pump by 3-5 turns. Has anyone here with a Indy Dan motor (2009 800 dragon) Done this and if so what did you find? How many turns did it take to reach this ratio? I have increase it by 4 turns.

I'm asking because to get to this oiler adjustment and see what it's set to is a nightmare once the motor is in place. Was so easy on the edge motors.

Thank you.

there are a lot of threads on this forum and the the pro about this subject. after reading them all you may still be confused. some suggest that turning the screw does nothing to the oil consumption. most believe it does and have found that # of turns on one machine doesn't always equal the same amount of adjustment on the next machine. some are also set differently from the factory. folks have posted pics that show the number of threads visible after the stop nut and they aren't all the same. do some research on here and take your best guess.

personally, i'd run the machine for an hour or so and calculate the oil to gas ratio. if it's not where you want it, then make changes. most on here seem to have turned their screws up by 3 times.

i am pretty sure the Iq and pros are different. Jus go by the lines on the pump lever an block and adjust it jus over the block line

This it the position at 3 turns.

That's probably a turn more than I did mine. I figured since I always add oil the gas it would equal out good. Do you plan on premixing oil?

My instructions say 3 to 5 turns. Premix 50:1 until u verify 1 quart is used on a full tank or a pint on a half tank. Also it says to premix 1oz per gallon forever

Same pump, just a different way to actuate it. The IQ's used a cable, like posted above, and the Pro chassis sleds have rod from the pump to the throttle bodies.

When I had my '09 700 out getting a 777 kit, I adjusted the pump so the pointer was just above the horizontal line on the pump. By my very crude/rough calculations, I'm around 45:1. Again I emphasize my crude/rough calculations.

Joemt that is really adjusted . One thing you need to make sure is that when you pull the throttle lever that the TBodies and pump are moving together.

We've done that engine and it's what the machine should of been from the get go . I left the secondary off on start up and pushed the pump open with a long screw driver for 3 minutes to makes sure it's purged .

Also running the iridium plugs and didn't have any fouling problems on break in . The tank was pre-mixed 40:1 of what he recommends and is now running 100:1

Hawkster: are you saying I've adjusted it to far? That is 3 full turns of the nut. I did adjust the throttle bodies...but the oil always starts to pull first (I messed with it for some time and got it as tight as I could.

So if I have this right you added oil to the gas for breakin at 40:1 and now run 100:1 for standard riding?

I guess time will tell , it just looks like it would be dumping a lot of oil at idle where that pointer is at . I kind of figured that by adjusting the oil cable that much would of messed with the throttle cable , I had a modified cable made when it was new and had to adjust since the lengths where jacked up .

Yes 40:1 was what I did and it's now 100:1 for now . Did you have the clutch balanced ?

Yes lifetime balance by indy Dan. It did mess with the throttle cable. But that is easy to adjust

AS for the oil I think so too.

Oiler question

Hey Joemt,
I thought I would dig this thread up since I am dropping one of dan's LRTM3 motors back in and am wondering what you ended setting our oiler to. I have mine right above the line now. Did you keep yours where you had it in the picture, and if so what is the oil consumption ratio? Thanks for any help.

Hi I am revisiting some of this as I just finished dropping in my motor yesterday. It's been a long road. I now have the adjustment just about the line.

How is your adjustment and what did you find your oil usage to be.

Joemt

I liked up my marks on 10 rmk 800, horrible mistake, used roughly inch of oil from tank in 5 miles. Have the cable backed off almost all the way away from the pump (lengthen cable) now and tons better. Spent 2 hours at the trailer readjusting so I could go riding again. :face-icon-small-fro
