Independence pass

I've never done that. Where do you start? The pass is closed all winter so I assume you have a good trail head to start on.

Not sure about aspen side. Twin lakes side has a great trailhead, however there are 3 or 4 avy chutes you have to cross to get to the riding. These chutes will slide and will kill. If you make it past the chutes I hear it is pretty epic. The area is bordered by wilderness on all sides, so know your boundaries.

I did it two years ago. It's very changeling because you have to stay out of the wilderness areas. It can very easily be a deadly place or just a stuck fest .I have never gone back.

I rode from the Aspen side this past May---about mid-May--and it was sweet.. No one up there because the gate was still locked...But we had a key to the gate and drove up to 10k and unloaded. Tried to ride to the top, but it got too sketchy near the top, so we turned around and explored a few washes and climbs... It was solid as a rock with 3-4" of new on top...so we went everywhere. Not sure about the "regular" season, but I think there is a tour co. that runs follow-the-leader tours up the road to the top and back from Aspen. The only issue would be wilderness, because I think alot of it is off limits.. Doh.
