In the market for new pickup, what would you do?

I have been kicking around the idea of upgrading from my 2005 dodge hemi for a while now. I really like the looks of the new gmc's and wonder if there is much power difference between the dodge hemi and the gm 6.0? I would love to buy a diesel but cant bring myself to spend the extra five grand or so that they cost and with the price of fuel, it just doesent pencil anymore. I also am considering waiting for the new body style from dodge to come out this fall, but waiting is so hard, lol. I only need to tow two sleds right now, and I have an aluminum enclosed triton, it pulls like a dream behind the hemi now. I have never really considered a ford, but am open to the idea. So I guess I am asking is if you were in the market for a 3/4 ton gasser what would you choose and why. I know this topic has been brought up before, but just wondering what peoples take on the new engine options and fuel savings options are. Let the debate begin.

Have you done any dealing?

The reason I ask is that the used market is in the toilet right now and I was
wondering if you were happy with what you'd be getting for your '05?

Seems to me like it would be a pretty big hit.

With high fuel costs, you'll take a hit for your truck, not only that, but when you drive that new truck off the showroom floor, it'll probably loose $10K in resale value.

I bought a 6l gmc crew a few months ago. They are as hard on fuel as I had been told. Bought it to put it on propane. Conversion around $2000 to $2500 propane anywhere from .50 to .65/l. I figure with the clicks I drive I'll pay for the conversion within a year. In my opinion the 6l has as much power as the hemi, but both are fuel pigs. Hope to get the truck in this week for the conversion, so my advise stick with the gasser, and convert. The mech I'm dealing with told me the 2 best trucks that respond to propane are the 6l chev and the hemi. You already have the hemi, why not convert it? Course if spending $ is what you want to do, then buy the diesel.:face-icon-small-win

If all you have to tow is a two place enclosed then why dont you look into the Tundra? It sounds like you prefer dodge, but i think its worth the look. A few people on here have them, along with many of my friends and they love them. There are also GREAT deals on these, as toyota produced way to many. Take a look, the worst that happens is you waste a few minutes....

keep what you have and be happy with it, unless your loaded and have alot of cash.

go to the dealer you would be amazed at how cheap the diesels are getting when they are not selling. you should beable to get a heck of a deal on them now

Fords Employee pricing has made them dirt cheap and an F-150 crew sounds like it could handle your loads and save you on gas. 6.0s are such gas pigs.

Yup  got an 07' F250 4 door short box Kingranch 6.0D, 6 speed with 24,890 miles on it at the dealer here in town for $26,470. Thats rediculously cheap, Only down fall it has to it is that its got a 5th wheel hitch in the back. Been thinkin about it for a few days now...might be gone. I hope it is so I dont have to pay $26k for it

I bought an 08 Chevy Crewcab LTZ with the 6.0 about a month ago. I didn't by the diesel for the same reasons your not. It pulls exceptionally well (27 ft travel trailer and 2 Grizzlies on a deck). In my opinion the 6 speed transmission has a lot to do with the towing. The truck is very smooth under load. Mileage isn't the best, but that is kind of a no brainer if your buying a 3/4 ton gasser for pulling heavy loads. I'm getting about 13MPH average around town and about 8-9 towing.

I gotta say that I'm very impressed by my truck and have absolutely no regrets.

Tundra, never thought i'd say this...............

Love it! i think it's an 08, w/ TRO susp. Been driving a 07-F250 v10 off-road in colo since i picked it up new. Built ford stupid. Way tough but not driver friendly. Noisey, circus-like rough, and horrible mpg, empty 9mpg with 2-place 6 mpg.

Totaled the ford, got a Tundra. Absoutely, incredible rides like a Cadilac or Lexus. Awesome 5.7ltr, feels like a LS1 from chevy that got copied. ton's of horsepwr, 380 i think. 6-sp auto, incredible 5.1 audio w/ aux input for ipod or sat direct.

And by the way, i'm a cummins guy. So i am really impressed.

rides like a lexus because toyota and lexus are the same. even though lexus doesnt make pickups.. they are very similar. (land cruisers and whatnot are almost exactly the same).. But I agree. TUNDRA.. have not heard any bad things. Plus, its a Toyota! However they don't come stick... dono if thats an issue for you. Good luck. Happy shopping.

I drove a Tundra for the first time this weekend. Very impressive power; but it will never hit my radar until that put a 6 or 8 ft bed on the Crewmax. 5 1/2 feet just doesn't cut it for my needs.

If you like big tires don't buy the 08 GMC. We put a 3" front lift in my friends so we could get 33's under it. The wheel wells are to narrow, We had to go with 285's. I've seen them lifted even higher and they still have to run 285's. I put a 3 inch front lift in my 07 Dodge 3500 and run 35's with no problem.
