I have an impulse kit on my Nytro right now with the 2860 stand-alone. I ride at an elevation of 8-10000 feet running 16-17# of boost. Should I update to the 2871 from paul or is the 2860 just fine? Also thinking about boost-it to go with either one? Any input or experience would be appreciated

Are you having issues with impulse standalone ECU ! .:face-icon-small-con

If your gonna upgrade I would go to either a GTX 2863 or GTX 2867. they are the new billet wheeled turbos from Gerrett the 2863 will spool the same as the 2860 and flow as much on top as the 2871. The 2867 will spool a touch slower but flow more then the 2871 on top.

At 8-10k at 17psi is the the 2860 still in its efficiency range? The standalone worked great just thought maybe there was a little to gain with the boost-it, ecspecially being able to add and take away fuel when needed.

I do not know about the turbo efficiency , but since it is a impulse kit you should ask Paul , i run a 3076 . As far as the fuel system goes , if the kits standalone ECU is tuned correctly , it should be making these fuel corrections automatically for you :face-icon-small-win

It depends on where and how you ride. A buddy of mine runs the same system as you exactly, but his turbo went bad so he called Paul. He phoned and asked the exact question you are asking. What Paul said was that if you are a big chute climber and on the gas taped to the bars or you want more on the top end the 2871 would suit your needs better but if you boondock a lot stick with the 2860 for the spool.

Now why in the world would someone want an adjustable fuel system so you can perfectly dial your sled in on the hill? Running on your stock fuel system pre boost might not be a bad thing either.:face-icon-small-ton
Anyway shoot me an email if you have any questions. We have done over 20 Impulse kits and no one is sorry they did the upgrade.

I just talked to a customer this morning who finished his Boost-It install and he is shocked by how much better it idles. I told him he will be pretty happy gaining 20-30% better fuel economy too.

Love my boost-it!

The problem is you'll have to go to the Race kit with the external gate, you'll have to swap a few parts, and I don't think you'll like the price as I have already asked Paul about doing it to mine.

whys that ? we just picked up a 2863 from Neil at boost it that was a direct swap out for my 2860 on my impulse kit ? He has a few more internally wasted gated ones sitting ready to go still i think

My bad, I was under the impression you had to go external gate

IMO you don't see enough slower spool for what you gain on top not to be happy with the 2871. We run the new GTX on our Nytro drag bike, runs real strong, but hard to tell how throttle response is since we engage really high rpm on boost:rockon:

the external gate helps spool better & allows better exaust flow but the new gtx turbos solve the spool. the external gate will run a bit cooler but is not needed for 99% of the guys out there.oh & there is almost no spool diff between the 2860 & 2871,it is there but most would never notice.

Thanks for the input guys, I ended up ordering a Boost-it kit and now shopping for a 2871.

I know it's off topic but what are the issues with the impulse standalone. Is not clean running or lack of adjustability an issue.

Not exactly sure at all most of the impulse kits that went boost it are the older ones which ran the dobec box, for me I love my Impulse standalone and would never change it for anything, I've ridden both and from what I felt it the boost it worked but still wasn't for me

My sled runs great that's for sure but I do like the idea of the sled running off of the stock map off boost. Maybe I'm just crazy but I do know there are some guys that have had the standalone go to boost-it with no regrets and have said it does run that much better especially of the bottom. A lot of good input here

Actually the opposite is true. Most of the kits to Impulse guys replaced the standalone.
Not really sure how you would know where my sales are going.

I have seen your sled run plenty of times...

One happy camper!

My nytro had the impulse 2860 with the standalone fuel system. I upgraded to Boost-it and a new 2871 from Boost-it as well. Not even the same sled! Now I run 21psi all day every day on 100LL Av and it fricken rocks! Once I had my system set up I pretty much never look at it any more. I might make a small adjustment from one riding area to the next, but that's me being picky its not needed. Plus the adjustment is made while sitting on the sled on the hill in about 30 seconds. Hell I've adjusted my boost-it while coasting downhill after a pull. Its that easy! My sled runs amazing now and the response of my sled is insane! Fuel economy is better, bottom end is crisp (no more slobbering and stalling), it rocks every where! It also works amazing in the trees with the 2871, I can chop it, get on it as hard as you want and it just responds! I have not found one down fall to switching to the bigger turbo and new fuel system. Highly recommend both upgrades! Water to air intercooler will be my next upgrade!
Great job Boost-It crew!
