Impulse Backfire?

Finally got the sled back on its own suspension instead of on the lift, installed a impulse kit with the 2071, Runs great in the shop idling, have it set to run 12.5-13 afr at idle, with the newest update computer the regulator is screwed all the way in. Took it out on the grass a little bit and can cruise around fine but once i try and hit the throttle it stumbles and backfires pretty bad, pulled back in shop and notice afr would keep climbing up until the autotune added enough fuel that it would die, Had another computer that he first sent with the kit and tried that one out, had to back way down on the fuel pressure to be idling around 12, took it out and would run better up until it started to get under boost, then would backfire (not as bad as latest computer)

Just wondering if anyone would have any insight to the problem, Already called Paul just trying to see if i could find a solution tonight, Im sure once he calls back in the morning he will have an answer for it in 5 minutes. Just a little impatient.

Thanks Kyle

My Impulse did the exact same thing with the newest tune. Im ditching the Impulse system for Boost-it system. I'm really not happy with the idle quality and low response on the standalone with the big injectors. NM's installing Boost-it on thurs. Its supposed to smarten these sleds right up. Time will tell.

Each sled is a little different. Mine idles at 11.8 and I have no hiccup anywhere. I also took a few tries to find the sweet spot in the fuel pressure for my sled. What is your rpm at after you let it idle for 10 seconds? I run my idle up at 1800-1900. Are your plugs gapped at 0.20?

im about to buy a impulse standalone, good you posted this.do not want it if the standalone can not handle big injectors. Can you post the boost it instructions, how to tune it?

ALL MY FAULT!!! Talked to Paul and he got me all straightened out, I didnt have the throttle cable tight enough so it was faulting and causing the sled to shut down, causing over lean and backfiring. Got that all fixed and then was running to lean once i tried to open it up, talked to paul again and told me to look for a vacuum leak, found one took it out again and about ripped my arms off once it hooked up.

Still a little tuning to find the sweet spot on the fuel pressure. But so far it idles great and no stutter off the line. Paul is the best with customer service, and if you have a problem he acts like its his own personal sled and wants to get it fixed instantly. Couldnt say enough good things about him but i am sure glad i got his kit

I dont know a whole lot yet about these tubo's yet, but I do know I'm not happy with how it runs. I dont mean to offend Impulse or anyone who has better luck then me. I had similar problems with a nytro with the RB3 system. I just dont like how complicated the computer fuel sytems are. I'm not gonna carry a laptop with me and I bet every sled will need a lil different tuning, just like every hot rod runs a little different on the street. At least with Boost it I can fine tune things on the hill. I love the rest of the Impulse kit, the fit and finish is amazing! Neil at boost it is only mins away from where I drive every days off, Paul is in another country hours away. I like having someone close to help out.
I dont know how to tune it yet but Neil assures me its simple and takes only mins. I will let ya know. :face-icon-small-hap

Don't feel bad, there is a lot involved in theses Turbo sleds and I think its safe to say we all have ran a vacuum line wrong or forgot to plug a sensor in:doh: We have our bike idling good with big injectors, even when we run our E85 map with 35% more fuel! Nice to know when your on the mountain it will always be spot on, need anymore help feel free to give us a call if you cant get a hold of Paul.

Hi are you running race e85 ? pump e85?

i know people that have tryed e85 on their apex race engines, they ment their engine blew up several times because of the added fuel.they ment hydrolock was a problem when running over 22psi.have you got a coldstart map done fore it yet?Do you got e85 as pumpfuel all winter,or does it become e75,e70?importent to know so you do not break the engine.do you add anything to the fuel ,so yoy dont dry up the bearings++? please keep us updated about your e85 engine this winter:)

We are running E85 from the pump and to be honest not sure if we will be pushing it much for sled use until we get more time on it, cold starting will be an issue im sure. We run it in the summer because we wanted to help lower engine and intake temps. Two things you don't have to worry about much when its snowing out:face-icon-small-hap

We have ran well over 22 psi and on our raptor 700 we are running 11:1 compression @ 24lbs of boost with no problems.

English racing runs almost all there car/quad stuff on e85..

what kind of fuel do you think paul wil map the syst on?

Im sure he will have a few maps, right now our ecu has a switch and we can go between race gas and E85. Sure after more testing this winter I could have some better answers for you...

If i buy a new apex impulse race kit,do you think i can get a standalone system for it?running pump gas and 109okt unledded fuel?we are not alowed to use ledded fuel. And is it posible to get software axess so i can make adjustments if neded.
Thanks from

Hey can give ya a head shim with the kit so you can run straight pump with his standalone.

you will then loose the posibility to adjust timing, and then you will loose some power.try first to get someone to adjust it before you deside to take it off:)

people att this forum mean this is a real standalone?????? is it????????? http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202250&page=2

You lose power because you lose the ability to adjust timing to create optimum power. I beleive that is the simple way of putting it.

Edit: the boost it system does not control timing where the standalone does, you would need to run an rb3 with your boost it fuel system to control timing

Just heard from the Boost-it boys. The sled starts and idles as smooth as a stock sled now. Gonna go pick it up tomorrow.
