IMPORTANT!! Hidden Gems Awareness information.

It is a workshop but you can ask questions, the main one being how many at the meeting are in favor of the wilderness, of course you need to make sure it LOOKS like it is in our favor. Don't ask if it is full of GREEN!!!!

I went to the Town of Avon meeting with about 20 others. Not bad considering I found out an hour earlier. The town asked us to come back with our presentation at a later date. We are working with the White River Forest Alliance on that now.

I can tell you that there is a lot of misleading information coming from the Hidden Gems side. I think that the Town of Avon saw right through most of it. Keep sending letters...

I agree the information on Hidden Gems is very misleading and feel that is their intention. People are being told it will not affect them since no one uses the areas. Most of the people in the our area know very little of what it involves.
One of the best things we can do is inform hunters, fishermen, and mountain bikers on what it really involves. They will be shocked once they look at the maps. Keep writing letters.

Thank you for contacting me regarding wilderness areas in Colorado and the Hidden Gems Wilderness proposal. I appreciate hearing from you.

As you may know, the Hidden Gems Wilderness proposal seeks to designate new wilderness areas—making additions to the White River and Gunnison National Forest and Bureau of Land Management lands—in western Colorado.

As we manage our federal lands, we must take steps to ensure that our most sensitive natural ecosystems are protected. I have been a strong supporter of wilderness areas and our national parks in Colorado. For example, I recently supported S.RES.244, a resolution commemorating the 45th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. Earlier this year, I joined Senator Mark Udall in circulating a joint letter to the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies requesting funding support for America’s National Parks.

While I know the importance of protecting our most precious special landscapes and sensitive natural habitats nationwide, I also understand the concerns raised by local stakeholders and recreational enthusiasts that federal legislation could impede on the needs and wishes of Coloradans. I will keep your concerns in mind as I continue to represent the interests of Colorado with a balanced approach—making use of our resources without destroying the natural beauty around us.

For more information about my priorities as a U.S. Senator and about issues of importance to Colorado and our nation, I invite you to visit my website at http://bennet.senate.gov/. Again, thank you for contacting me.

Bennet's Generic Response

I did the same. I doubt anything will come back than that written by a publicist, but keep the pressure on. That is all we can do. Let your voice be heard.

Don't feel bad if you don't get a personal response, just keep up the good work. Believe me though, they are defaintly feeling heat on this issue. I know for a fact. We are defiantly having some serious success. :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-hap:beer;

Dear Michael,

Thank you for contacting me about a wilderness proposal called "Hidden Gems." While I am aware that this proposal has been made by a number of groups in Colorado and that some of my colleagues in the Congress may be working on it, this is not a bill that I or my staff have been involved in drafting.
As a long-time proponent of wilderness and the author of several successful Colorado wilderness bills, I will certainly examine this latest proposal. Rest assured that I will not support any legislation unless and until it has addressed a number of issues such as boundary lines, water rights and facilities, National Guard helicopter training activities, forest health management, and local community support.
I intend to work with you, other interested stakeholders, and my colleagues in the Congress on these issues if this proposal is advanced.I will continue to listen closely to what you and other Coloradans have to say about matters before Congress, the concerns of our communities, and the issues facing Colorado and the nation. My job is not about merely supporting or opposing legislation; it is also about bridging the divide that has paralyzed our nation's politics. For more information about my positions and to learn how my office can assist you, please visit my website at www.markudall.senate.gov.

Warm Regards,

Udalll response....No mention of "his love for Wilderness"

Dear Ray:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the management of our state’s backcountry areas. I appreciate hearing from you.

As a Coloradan, I certainly understand your concern about access to backcountry areas, and I agree that federal legislation must be careful not to impend on the needs and wishes of Coloradans. In the Senate, it has been my goal to represent the interests of Colorado with a balanced approach—making use of our resources without destroying the natural beauty around us.

I will keep your concerns in mind as the Senate considers relevant legislation.

Well, at least we got a response. Even though it is the politically correct one. Maybe these (Hopefully) these go into a bucket for yes or no. See what weights more.

I am not in the districts for the proposed legislation, but none the less, I am sure it will be moving to other areas as soon as this is decided. This is now just central Colorado. Next Northern/Southern and then other areas of the Western States. They will keep biting off a little at a time and build momentum if we let them. This is not just a Colorado concern, its all of the Western States.
